Hey Nick is this the nearside front wheel???

Mines gonedistinctly similar and whilst i thought all my camber issues were solved with the last Geo, i'm beginning to thing the stiffer arb's and bushes added to how most of us like to take rounabouts is equaling this result... (due to that side taking most of the punishment)

be interesting to know if you always get this wear patten whilst you've had the car.

cheers

My Toyos ended up like that as well. As above I think it's roundabouts.

My nearside went early too on a set of continentals, I put it down to motorway slip roads and flyovers which are a bit like roundabouts only longer to boot round :P just proved to be an expensive pleasure

My TT's completely standard and my Falken FK452's, which have about 1/3 left, have worn evenly right across the tread.

Both the front two were exactly the same like that, so looks like the tracking / camber settings might be off.

Typical bloke worrying about the more major thing it may fail on and yet it is the most simplest of things they DO fail you on - you tit! . Glad nothing major or 'too' big needs doing :). Not gonna replace the kingfishers just yet then? :)

1.6mm min tread depth across 3/4 of tyre (and I can see it's not reached your wear bars yet) and "visible" tread in remaining 1/4. That's why it passed although it is marginal on the "visible" bit.

Looks like your toe is too negative (toe out) on the front.

Doesn't need to have visible tread in the remaining 1/4, it can be bold and still pass, the remaining 1/4 will only fail if the cords are showing.

You are correct - apparently the requirement has been updated but there are many MOT centre websites and tyre references still quoting "Must be in excess of 1.6mm over 3/4's of the tyre, with the remaining tyre having visible tread.".

The visible requirement came from the regulation change introduced on 1st january 1999:

1st January, 1999, instead of 1 mm required at present. The requirement applies across the central three-quarters of the breadth of tyre normally in contact with the road surface, and visible tread is required on the remaining quarter.
http://www.gov.im/infocentre/archived_r ... Tyres.html

... which is what I remember but the MOT tester's manual now clearly states:

The grooves of the tread pattern are not at least 1.6mm throughout a continuous band comprising · the central three-quarters of the breadth of tread, and · round the entire outer circumference of the tyre. Note: Each side of the central band of the tyre can be devoid of tread (i.e. ‘bald’) and still meet the pass standard.

I'm not sure when that change happened but thanks for pointing it out :)

If you look at the bottom of your photo, inside the tread is a bit of rubber joining the gaps. This is your wear indicator, if they are slick with the tread pattern then you're at the legal limit.

I've got Toyo's too, put them on after my MOT last year, coming up to my MOT next month - I wonder if they will have lasted a year! Roundabouts and general road-quality is not doing me any favours.
