Hi all,

My v6 is going for it's first mot tomorrow and I know that the front two tyres are very low so I need to replace them. I have heard in the past that on 4wd vehicles you need to replace all 4 tyres together but after a bit of research now believe that I'm ok to change both fronts.

I'm currently running on stock Michelin pilots. 245/40zr18. National tyres have offered a pair of pilots for 580 fitted or a pair of bridgestones for 380. Can I get away with going for the cheaper bridgestones or do I have to go for michelins?

Many thanks for your help!!

Buy the Pilots from somewhere that wont rip you off and you wont need to worry  :P For example

Thanks for your response.

The problem I have is that my mot was due on Saturday and I only found out yesterday... so I have no option but to buy new tyres locally this morning as my mot is this afternoon and I know the car will fail on the two front tyres.

Those are my only two options... I'd prefer to buy the Bridgestones, so long as they aren't going to cause any trouble with the drivetrain...

Anybody know if this is likely to cause any problems down the line?

Cheers!

Cheers for the response.

I checked the tread on the rears this morning and found that they are just 3mm... so decided to replace the four. I have done a bit of looking around and found that KwikFit could do the four for 775 with a £25 petrol voucher! Cheapest I could find anywhere.

Booked in for fitting on Thursday... so got to hope and pray that the MoT centre pass the fronts which are currently at 1.6 and 1.8mm. I'm in the belief that at 1.6mm it should pass as they are not yet technically illegal..? After all you can't get prosecuted for doing 30mph in a 30 zone can you... or am I being naive here?
