Have you checked the status of the car battery as it’s been left stood whilst you’ve been o holiday? - might be quite flat…..

Assuming you can get to the door's cable loom, maybe the lock actuator is electrically activated and you apply the right current to the right cable it will open?
Sadly the dealer will take some £100 just to say "oh look your door is broken" but maybe they will know the solution?

Could be a disconnected bowden cable. There's a TSB on this I believe for early Mk2s. Link here.

An OBDII fault scan is always a good idea to see if there's any faults being reported as it could be a defective or damaged wire in the door loom powering the lock mechanism if there's no sound of the actuator operating.

Put fresh batteries in your fobs and give that a try first. Sometimes the easy solution is the one most overlooked.

See if this post helps -

If the window won't operate either then it sounds like it could be the wiring loom to the passenger door as there's no electric supply going to it. The problem is, it will be double locked so I don't think that post will help but anything is worth a try. You can't open it from the inside and there's no key hole on the outside to unlock manually which on the drivers door you do have.

I had the same issue a couple of years ago. I couldn't find anything online (No secret key hole to unlock it manually) and could only see posts suggesting that a hole is pretty much drilled to get to the lock! It turned out to be that the plug which connects the wiring loom from the car to the door near the door hinges came loose and was probably a case of the garage not properly plugging it back in after having the door off for a lock repair. Luckily for me, i hit a bump in the road which knocked it back into place just enough to bridge a connection and press the door unlock button. It's only then that i discovered the cause and resolved it from happening again.

I'm not suggesting you risk damaging your car in every pot hole on the road though trying to get the same result though...... :D
Not sure without going out and having a look at my door as to whether there's a gap between the door and car body to get something (Which won't scratch the paint) inside the gap to nudge the socket? Sorry i can't be of any more help but i thought i'd add my own experience of looking into this when i had similar symptoms.

scan says door control module faulty
so still have to get the door unlocked got all the clips out from the door panel disconnected the handle cable but cant get the panel over the speaker metal bracket may i may have to jam the door card open and take the panel off for the cables and hopefully get into the lock that way, scraped arms and torches and mirrors going to be needed i think

so took drivers door card off to see if there is a way from inside the door to manually override but cant see a way to do it so not much point taking door card off at all .

wiggled door wires in door jam with a plastic ruller didnt make any diffrence.

still stuck hoping WAK will share some of his tricks

managed to get the door open good job i found a spare lock just chiselled it to bits to get it open and a big hard very hard pull got the door card off over the speaker bracket, so new lock doesnt work either but door is open heres a scan of the car all ok been removed to save data for site . most of it points to passenger door module but noticed also saying drivers door which works fine

For info on these and other faults, run a Google search for "Ross Tech xxxxx" where xxxxx is the fault code. If they have one published for that code, it will provide possible causes and solutions -

01331 - Ross-Tech Wiki (Note this is for the Driver's side since 01332 doesn't seem to be listed)

01552 - Motor for Central Locking; Drivers Door (V56); Lock
012 - Electrical Fault in Circuit
00928 - Locking Module for Central Locking; Front Driver Side (F220)
008 - Implausible Signal
01332 - Door Control Module; Passenger Side (J387)
004 - No Signal/Communication
I would start by carefully inspecting the wiring loom inside the grommet between the A-pillar and door. Broken wires in there are not uncommon.

well here is a update and it might help others
I had inspected all the wires in both door jams and they were fine but i tested the wire going into the door control module and that was ok but there was no live coming out to the lock, the mirror or the window switch so took the window motor out split it from the module and spent a good hour tracing the fault in the module and it was 2 components, (so was the module) I then ordered a replacement giving the part number on the motor , this part number will not do alone the module part number and the motor number have to be the same, (coupes have different module also) you can just replace the module very easy to split but seller would not split so i just put whole lot on, scanned car again historic faults do not clear by themselves with the replacement even though the whole lot works so cleared in vcds and all's fine
