Haldex Issue -

Not necessarily a failed pump. I believe a blocked or partially blocked pump filter can cause the pump to work harder, resulting in fault code being reported due to a higher current load on the motor.

If the pump is not totally fried, a fluid and filter change may sort it. If you do this yourself, when you get the car up in the air it must be level in order to ensure the correct amount of fluid has been added. While it's out, you can also bench test the pump with a 12V source. If it runs, it's fine.

If this job is more than you want to tackle, have the shop replace the fluid and both filters. While it's up there, have the rear final drive fluid changed too. Fluid changes are cheap insurance!

Convertible Top Issue -

Bingo! Your left Roof Flap Servo has thrown a fault!

03246 - Sensor for Canopy Flap; Left (G596) - Located in the left flap servo with motor, the error occurs when the expected value for the potentiometer is below ~42 or above ~184.

The 0200 fault just means the Convertible Top Controller has locked out the center console switch to prevent automatic operation of the top. The 1097 fault is not unexpected since the top can't work in automatic mode.

Do the Roof Flap Servo R&R and clean out both of them. Then reinstall them and run the Roof Adaptation. The Adaptation will clear the fault and reset new the roof flap values with the Controller. After the Adaptation is complete, the other two faults will go away too.

And congrats! You now own a Ross Tech VCDS which is THE go-to diagnostic and repair device!

Well that's a new one! :unsure:

Unfortunately it's the first time I've seen this message so I can't make a recommendation other than trying the Adaptation again. If you didn't do it the first time, try it with your engine is running to ensure the voltage is up.

If that doesn't work, I would recommend that you go to the Ross Tech Forum and post there.

Be prepared to upload your entire fault scan (copy/paste it into your post as a text file) as they use that to prove you're a VCDS owner.

Then go into what you've done with regards to the roof faults, cleaning the servos and now this message while attempting the Adaptation (and be sure to upload your screen images too).

I have posted quite a few time there and Uwe Ross (the owner) and his team a really supportive so they should be able to manage a solution. You can throw out my name and reference this forum as I've provided them with information in the past, and I am very curious what would cause this message to appear.

If you would be so kind, after you create the post in the Ross Tech Forum, please link a URL to it here so we can follow it and post the results.

Andy and I have exchanged a few emails in the past so hopefully he gets back with me on this. But go ahead and post in their Forum as it will be a good reference for anyone in the future that runs into a similar issue.

Quick question about the Convertible Top Flap Adaptation.

One of the Forum members had a 03426 fault on the left roof flap. I recommended that he open up the Roof Flap Servo (RFS) and clean out the excess grease (the usual cause of RFS failures) and then run the Adaptation.

FYI - the 02000 and 01097 faults are typical after the Control Unit has locked out the automatic operation so I'm not worried about these as they always clear once the Adaptation has been performed.

After he cleaned up both servos and put everything back together he attempted to run the Adaptation. Oddly, it came back with this message "Refused by Control Module" which I have never seen before.


Any idea what would cause this?

Please do me a favor and post your entire fault scan as a text file. They may ask for it and if you post it here, I can quickly upload it for reference.

Or you can just upload it yourself in the Ross Tech post linked above.
Since I last cleared the codes it’s only coming up with one now. It did have 4-5 before

Plus the initialisation test is now not saying anything once I’ve ran it

is there a way of retrieving deleted codes?

That's why it's important to always clear you faults the first time you run a fault scan and then see what come up when you run the auto scan the second time. As noted below from Ross Tech Wiki, supply voltage and faulty battery can contribute to an under-voltage condition.

00446 - Function Limitation due to Under-Voltage: Lower Limit Exceeded
Possible Symptoms

  • Malfunction Indicator Light (MIL) ON
Possible Causes
  • Fuse(s) faulty
  • Supply Voltage low
  • Battery faulty
  • Generater faulty
Possible Solutions
  • Check Fuse(s)
  • Check Supply Voltage

My guess is the low voltage condition (4.99 - 8.16V) was the cause of the Roof Flap Adaptation being rejected. If you ran this again with the engine running and it worked, that would have taken care of the low voltage.

You may want to check the date on your battery just to make sure it's still good. My OEM factory lasted up until just a few years ago, but it was causing various faults as it started failing to hold and keep a charge. Once I had a new battery installed, that sorted it.

they mostly seem to be something to do with voltage? my engine has been running the whole time whilst doing the test. my car battery i bought 3-4 years ago and never had problems accept when leaving my lights on a couple times whilst engine wasnt running.

strangely enough its saying my roof is ok. but it still doesnt work

As you noted, you have a lot of under voltage faults.

"Terminal 30" refers to the main power busbar that runs in front of the fuse box under your hood / bonnet. "B+" refers to main battery power. Under voltage & “Lower Limit Exceeded” means that power is intermittently dropping below the minimum level necessary to keep things running properly.

With all these power faults anything else reported is likely bogus. Deprive a computer / controller of power and it will hang / crash / output gibberish.

So there are a couple of possibilities.
  1. Your battery is bad. The life expectancy of an AGM battery is 5 -7 years. This can be extended with religious use of a smart charger, but you can also damage a new battery with just one or two deep discharges (anytime dropping below 12.0vdc)
  2. You have a bad connection(s) from your battery or a bad ground (return) connection. Clean & tighten both battery terminals and clean & tighten the main ground points under the hood / bonnet.
Once you have stable power, clear the error codes and see what comes back.

@ Kievebuh14 - As noted, the common problem from your fault scan is low voltage. Check the ground points under the air cleaner shown below (air cleaner already removed). They tend to get a bit corroded over time and a good clean (e.g. removal, clean and reinstall) often solves the issue -

@ Kievebuh14 - As noted, the common problem from your fault scan is low voltage. Check the ground points under the air cleaner shown below (air cleaner already removed). They tend to get a bit corroded over time and a good clean (e.g. removal, clean and reinstall) often solves the issue -

Ok so I’ve checked the terminals near my battery plus the ground under my air filter and they all look in pretty good condition. So is it looking like the battery?

ive Fitted the Haldex today, it was such a pig!

I’m not really clear why a new VCDS scan on August 10th shows faults dated 12/12/2021.
But anyway, do you have a voltmeter to do some battery checks? If not, any garage will test your battery for a few quid.

Put a volt meter on your battery terminals and turn on your headlights without starting your car. Does the battery voltage drop by more than a few tenth's ? What are the readings with the headlights on and off?

battery is
12.27 before headlights on
And is still sticking around 12 with headlights on

Can you run another scan, clear the faults, run another scan and post your results?

With all the clutter removed and just the addresses and faults, I think it's safe to say it's a voltage issue somewhere...

Have you checked the fuseable-links inside the fuse box located next to the air filter box? Also verify all the fuses are good in the dash side-fuse box too while you're at it. Other fuses and relay locations can be found here.

That doesn't sound good. A fully charged AGM battery should read ~ 12.6 - 12.8vdc when resting.
If less than this you need to put the battery on a charger overnight. Once the battery has been fully charged check it again in a day or so. If your voltage has dropped back down to 12.27vdc you battery is done and needs replacement.

In that case, run the fault scan after the installation. Hopefully after you clear the existing faults, it comes back with no faults at all and the roof works properly.

I did get a reply, but not from the Ross Tech team (link).

Some other individual was going on about adjusting the distance between the roof flap in the up position and edge the wind-guard being 10mm.

While that is true (see TSB here) it has nothing to do with the fault we're talking about given the cause is migrating grease on the potentiometer.

I also posted your fault scan, so we'll see if anyone comments on that.
