Hi

Just purchased a 200 TT roadster 96 k on clock full history in service book up too 74k. Any way previous owner confirmed to garage cam belt done at 70k but no paperwork sooooo even though I can't afford it after buying car I have booked it in for cam belt and water pump change (cant afford not too right?) got a price of 260 from my local garage who has looked after us for years.

Wife will go nuts when she finds out I've spend that already but better to ask forgiveness than permission :D

My question is I got this car as I need it for work, garage can't do it until week on friday and I have 8 shifts so that's 16 30 mile runs, wife will just be knocking about local 3 -5 mile runs. Is it better to just use the Audi on short stop start runs or the longer ones.

Appreciate best advice is not use it but I really cant :-| just wondering what other thought as I am not very well versed on these issues

Any help greatly appreciated

You will always get the best mileage out of the car on motorway runs, so when I was doing 30 mile trips to work which was mostly motorway I was getting 400 miles from a tank at about 30 mpg average. I'm now doing a 15 mile round trip which is all local roads and getting just 330 miles out of a tank at about 26 mpg. You don't say what sort of roads your trip is on but that might give you some idea.

The other factor of course is which car you're happiest piling the mileage onto. The TT is a robust car and we have examples going strong approaching 200k so they can take the miles - it's all just a matter of whether you're particularly concerned about the value. Added to that is how greedy you are about who gets to drive the TT. I always take it as a preference - it's nice to start your working day with a smile on your face!

Thanks for the replies :D the service history was by quite a few different specialists. I think I am happy to get it done and that will give me peace of mind. I'm a bit of a worry wart :p

Until I get it done in ten days time I will let miss us use it round town less chance of any issues the once it's done I will start using it on the 60 mile commute

Hi Col, Cambelt could go at any time but is under most stress at start up & tickover. 12 years & 96k miles is along time & plenty of miles if cambelt has not been replaced.
If you can find out who did the cambelt give them a ring to confirm. Ask the previous owner who did the job.
Hoggy. :D
