So the TT im getting this weekend needs a new Crank Sensor, does anyone have any experience with these?!

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/CRANKSHAF...CarParts_SM&hash=item23164a333d#ht_2469wt_952

It seems to cheap to be worth the risk? But at the same time i dont want to order the more expensive genuine one and someone on here tell me the cheaper one is just as good...Anyone had any experience?

PS Im not a cheap skate, i just dont like wasting money.

I would check with your main Audi Dealer in the morning for a part number.

I would also check that TPS can not supply it cheaper. :)
Iv just had the part number confirmed, its the correct one! I also have no idea what TPS is and how i would go about checking with them! I need it for Friday so iv placed an order, but if you could inform me of what TPS is i will use it in future! haha

The correct sensor for an APX which you will have in a W reg is 06A906433C the BAM uses a different sensor which is the ones you posted in the link above 06A906433L The 2 sensors are different and only info i have is 2 different sizes APX is 570mm BAM is 200mm... ( this may just be length of cable !!!)

Part prices from Audi are £110 for either, Eurocarparts sell them and will be a quite a bit cheaper with forum discount :)

Right then. Seems I have a fair amount to learn here. So the two sensors are primarily the same just the cable is longer on one?! Iv ordered part 433L as It was the one that came up on the parts list for the mk1 Audi 225 Quattro. I guess I will have to wait and see what turns up. If it doesn't fit, I will get a refund and go through euro carparts instead. I went with this as I wanted genuine and it was a better price, rather then direct from Audi!

Well the parts are different just what is different im not quite sure yet, the info i put above comes from ETKA which is the audi parts program and its says about the 570mm/200mm in the remarks column.

As the bam runs a different flywheel and has vvt it may have something to do with this as it is timing related.

The L version is for the Bam engine so i'll imagine this is what you will receive, you need the C version for the APX which you have, i would cancel the order and get the correct one as it plays a vital role.

Can get the bosch sensors on ebay for £42 :)

So my 225 Quattro doesn't have a BAM engine then. I honestly thought they all did. So I'm guessing it's the older TT that runs the APX engines and they were later replaced with the BAM in the newer models?! Is that correct?! I will cancel the order. Now then and place an order for the one ending in C. What a ballache!

Yep thats it fella 225's came with just 2 engines APX fitted up to end of 2001 then BAM takes over from 2002-06.

There may be a few 51/02 cars that have either engine depending on what audi had laying around in the parts bin
Is the BAM engine better then?! What was the reason for the change? Iv managed to get hold of the company I ordered the sensor off, the posted it first thing this morning at 8.30...so I unfortunately have to wait to send it back at more expense before I can order the correct one. On the plus side, the money I get back should leave me enough to buy the Bosch one and get a new Alarm sounder for the TT as the batteries have rotted in mine. :) two jobs sorted!

Well the BAM engine is safer, it has a few handy things that the APX doesn't like wideband lambda , exhaust gas temp sensor, VVT although its for emissions not power related as some are.

What this means is if something were to go wrong a bam engine will react a lot quicker making changes or putting the car in limp mode, the apx is a little more relaxed and wont make changes until things start to get really bad..

The change over was probably done 1st for emissions law then 2nd safety over apx unit imo

Apparently though the APX is a stronger engine, have one fitted in mine and is going well so far..... :p

My siren is the same, looks like an Alien has dribbled on it

Much the same here, it's gone all odd and stopped working, do needs ripping out and replacing with a new siren! Aww that's ok then. Iv been madly googling the APX and BAM engines to try and learn what I can about the car. Seems like you said, the APX is the lazy one of the pair, so let's hope nothing goes wrong! Haha.
