Best way to verify faults is with an OBDII diagnostic device. Otherwise trouble-shooting is just a guessing game.

Many forum membershave either VCDS or OBDeleven. I have both since I have a Roadster and the VCDS is the only device that can sort the Adaptation for roof failures.

For quick scans and convenience (mine lives in the glove box), the OBDeleven IMHO is the way to go. More here -

My post includes an arm puller (see below) which is very similar to the VAG one but way cheaper and gets the job done.
