So the wheels im looking at come in 8.5J wide which I assume would be no problem over the standard 8J wheels. But they do a set in 9.5J would these fit without modification or spacers? And not cause problems

I'd say for 9.5's up front (have them myself) you'd need spacers but then you'll poke depending on the offset. 9.5's in the rear however shouldn't be a problem.

8.5's upfront should be a problem, but you may need to space a little if your running coilovers low.

Hi, I have 8.5j on front and 9.5j on rear with 255/35/18 tyres
and have no issues what so ever.
Spacers 15mm front 20mm rear and it's on Coilovers. Low
So you should be fine.
what offset are your wheels ?

There Et 35.
What size of tyre are you running on the front?

I'm looking at a 225/40/18" with a 18x8.5" et 42 on the front. The rear im planning to fit 255/40/18s with a 18x8.5" et 33 alloy on the rear.

Should the above work?

I'm running 225/40/18 front and 255/35/18 rears as these are almost
the same rolling diameter. Apparently it can balls haldex up if there
too far out.
IMHO I think 255/40/18 would look huge on the side wall and would
knock out rolling diameter with front.
The set up I have is the closest rolling diameter I could get with
staggerd set up. Looks great with a fat ass.
[google] tyre calculator and enjoy.
The set up you have listed above would work regarding et
but may need spacers to get the best look.
Hope this helps.

This set up will not work...there is 24 mil difference in overall diameter which is 3.77%..it has to be below 2% or the haldex will break. You need 255/35 on the rear...there is less than 1 mil difference with this.
