GPS Antenna

It would seem that the RNS-e on my car is a retrofit with the installer not doing a great job of it. I got it working right with Stuarts (pcbbc) help . However there is one eyesore that i would really like to get rid off and relocate. The GPS antenna has been installed on the centre of the dash and just bugs the hell out of me every time I get in the car. Is there another location I can place this? I believe some roof antennas have the GPS antenna as well.

I've not done it but I've seen many comments that the GPS receiver works ok if placed under the dash, on top of the glovebox.
Concealed under the dash certainly works for me on my MK1 retro fit. I don't seem to have any issues, and for me it works just as well as for factory install unit in MK2 Roadster used to.
Sorry no idea where the factory fit location is, but I would be placing as high up as possible, without any metal objects above and central-ish to dash so as not to be obstructed by pillars.
In the instrument binnacle would probably be ideal, but may not be reachable from headunit cutout. Otherwise anywhere where there is "line of sight" up through the windscreen to clear skies.

when I installed a Pioneer head unit recently, I had the glove box out to remove some old mobile phone install crap and took the opportunity to place in there - IIRC it was on top of a metal bracket using the double sided adhesive pad, pointing up through the window with hopefully only the plastic dash in the way of the signal. All works very well.

My OCD simply wouldnt allow it the way you've been left with it on the dash - would drive me insane.

Usual rules for glove box removal:

Switch off ignition first.
6 fasteners; inside - 3 along top edge and 1 at the back; 2 underneath.
DO NOT switch on the ignition with the air bag switch disconnected. If you do the air bag warning light will come on and it needs VCDS to reset.

My retro fit is under the dash taped up just about the RNS-e. Works fine - no issues.
