Where in the world are you located?

If Europe, then going with the assumption your photograph is showing the No. 1 position in the diagram below, then it's -R86- Telephone Amp. but only for the Coupe. European Roadsters have -R86- on the side of the dash.

In North America, that location is for the Satellite radio device.

Do you have the phone kit in the center console?

I believe the Sirius satellite radio receiver also fits in that space (US models anyway).

I have that same blank spot in my trunk too. As shown in SSP391, Roadsters have the -R86- Phone Amp located on the end of the dash. Here you can see it behind the right-side dash panel of my 2007 German Spec Roadster. I'm going to assume North American and ROW Roadster's all have it in the same location too.

Yes, I do have the phone kit in the console...

The car is a Canadian model

Might be the that previous owner or the dealership removed it or it was never installed. The factory wiring harness is probably set up that way so North American dealers can add the Sirius unit when requested by the customer.

This image is from the 7zap.com parts list for "Cell Phone Preparation". Since item #12 (Amplifier) is shown in two different orientations I suspect this is for the European/ROW Coupes in the horizontal orientation and Roadster in vertical position on the end of the dash.

If you're not using the center console phone kit and want to get rid it, it's an easy swap -

As a Roadster owner, you may enjoy this post. Lots of good info on the Roadster -

EDIT - Did quick search for Audi TT Sirius and XM receivers and found these units available from ECS Tuning and listed under the North American 7zap.com parts group. Now it makes sense why Audi has it pre-wired; this way the customer can have one or the other. This also explains why European TT Roadster's don't have anything in this space since we don't have either Sirius or XM Radio over here.

Then FNChaos most likely correctly identified it for Sirius. Might be the that previous owner or the dealership removed it. Odd it would have the wires without the unit.

No worries and welcome to the forum! :)

Couple of suggestions to consider -

Roadsters are prone to roof failures due to the roof flap servos. This is well documented in the Forum and even Audi knows about it, but they simply charge you to replace the servos which doesn't always solve the problem. These are very easy to remove and clean and will help to avoid problems down the road. Take a look through this post as it will explain the problem and how to sort it out before they go south on you.

Since you have a Haldex, it's likely the previous owner did not replace the Haldex filter. This is often an overlooked service as it's not called out in the Maintenance Schedule. There's also a small screen on the pump that should be cleaned if not replaced. If you can't find a service record of the Haldex filter and fluid being changed, it's a good idea to have it done.
