In this video i show you the basics of doing a full service on a AUDI TT 2.0 TDI CR 170 which is pretty much the same as on other models with the same engine.

@ chrisj82 -

After replacing the diesel fuel filter you should prime the fuel pump as defined in the Workshop Manuals -

@ chrisj82 - You may want to update your YouTube channel with this information so people who change the TDI fuel filter do it correctly.

Follow the instruction in the Humble Mechanic's Youtube video (shown below) with VCDS. OBDeleven and other OBDII devices may have this capability too.

• [ Address 01-Engine ]
• [ Basic Setting-04 ]
• Use the drop down menu "Fuel Supply Pump Activation" (or enter 035 in the Group Window).
• Click on [ ON/OFF/Next ] Run the pump for 30 seconds, repeat 3 times.
• [ Done, Go Back ]
• [ Close Controller ]
• Disconnect VCDS cable

It's worth watching this video since he's a certified VW mechanic and knows what he's talking about -

Not priming the TDI fuel pump can cause:

• Airlocks:

Air in the fuel lines creates an airlock, preventing diesel fuel from reaching the fuel injectors.

• Fuel Starvation:
This lack of fuel can starve the high-pressure fuel pump (HPFP) and injectors, disrupting the fuel-air mixture and causing the engine to run poorly or not at all.

What Happens During an Attempt to Start:

• Extended Cranking:

Instead of starting, the engine will likely crank for an extended period as the starter motor attempts to expel the air and draw fuel into the system.

• Injector Damage (in some models):
In older TDI models (without in-tank lift pumps), running the HPFP dry due to a lack of fuel can cause internal metal-on-metal grinding, leading to damage.
