I’ve got the mk2 3.2 2006 with Bilstein B12 Pro-Kit with EIBACH Pro-Kit performance springs on factory 18” wheels with 64k. I wanted to get the bushing done as well but haven’t.
the ride was best described as brittle before the upgrade. The tried suspension was jumping more than flowing in contact with an undulating road. crashing into pot holes with a shudder.
night and day difference. Could not believe the changes it made. The dampers and springs seem to be more progressive, softer at the start of the stroke, stiffening nicely though the mid-stoke and really firming up at the end. The way is lands of a small crest is sublime. you can feel how active each wheel‘s movement is when it gets rough, they simply stay glued to the road. That’s down to the dampers, they seem to adapt to speed and load really well.
as for comfort, massive improvement. The wheels no longer drop into pot holes and crash out. Sharp edges are no longer transmitted into the cabin making longer trips more enjoyable.
what it did NOT do is improve the NVH. I’m putting that down to the bushings. my trusted mechanic didn’t think there was anything wrong with them, but I think they’ve hardened over time considerably.
DO THE BUSHINGS!
I’m going to have to. Any opinion's? I seek a comfortable, fast road setup.
I also upgraded the front and rear brakes. No, not a big brake kit. I went for the VW motorsport discs and fast road pads. The disks were kilos lighter than stock. On each side! got new stock calipers, hoses/pipes all round. Obviously braking is now a bit stupid. It’s just stops on the nose with new Conti Sports. What I didn‘t expect was the change in the way the car steers. That took me by surprise. It’s feels lighter and yet more connected to the road surafce. Well worth it.
loving my tt and looking forward to the next round of upgrades. Got my eye on some super light 18” forged wheel. In gold. On my black car…
