2009 3.2 VR6 - Trouble Finding Rear Suspension Coils

Hi all,

My latest MOT test highlighted (advisory) Rear suspension coil corroded.

Mygarage can't source the required part - I need two of them. The Part number is 8J0511115AA.

I've tried a variety of suppliers and the item is out stock - the garage says they're on back order and may not be available (at least from Audi).

Has anyone else had this problem and how can I get it solved?

I've seen lots of items but the lst two letters are not AA.

Pleased to hear

Looking at the PR codes for p/n 8J0511115AA
1BA = Standard suspension/shock absorption
0YN = Weight range 13 installation control only, no requirement forecast
TY6 = 6-cylinder SI engine 3.2 l unit 022.V
Roadster

You could try and find p/n 8J0511115 ending in
AB = Weight range 14 installation control only, no requirement forecast
AC = Weight range 15 installation control only, no requirement forecast
AD = Weight range 16 installation control only, no requirement forecast

Each weight range is designed to handle a little more weight (so slightly stiffer as the weight range increases). Ideally you'd stay as close to weight range 13 as you can but they are all compatible with a standard (not Magride) shock'ed 3.2L Roadster.

If you can't find any of the above options there's always the idea of getting used ones--you can match the coloured dots. Of course with those, who knows how long they will last.

Another idea presents if you're okay with lowering the car a little, or even if you'd like it lowered. In this case just get a full set (all four) of something like Eibach, H&R, etc. springs and have them all put on. The fronts will require the MacPhersons to be disassembled but hey you can have the mount/bearings done at the same time too. A full set of those will probably cost you what one or two original Audi springs costs anyway...albeit a bit more labour to do the fronts, as mentioned.

If you don't want it lowered too much, you can go with a "mild lower" option like Eibach Pro-Kit which won't be that much lower than stock.

Thanks for the sugestion - I think the car's low enough for where I live but I'll need to check with my garage prices etc.

Who hasn't got corroded rear springs? If your spring isn't broken then I'd ignore it but if you must replace them:

Sachs 994 595 or
Sachs 994 600

depending on the ride height you want (5mm difference). I went for 595.

Both around £45 each from Autodoc.co.uk. Also available from suppliers on eBay.

Thanks for your reply - it looks very technical - so I'll work on it :)
Audi make a couple of dozen spring sets for the MK2 since curb weight and ride height can vary depending on options (i.e. engine type, manual v. auto, FWD v. AWD, Coupe v. Roadster, Magride v. Standard, etc, etc)

The PR (production codes) help identify what they fit. The suffix(s) listed above are all for a 3.2L Roadster with standard (non-Magride shocks). The only difference is they progressively get stiffer to handle more weight.

You can install aftermarket springs and they'll likely work just fine but they are 'one-size fits all'. That is you have a choice in height but they are not optimized for any specific options combo.
