Remove your blower fan and check for binding / interference.. If binding, lubricant will likely provide a temporary solution but will probably fail again (buying you time to sorce a replacement).

To access the blower simply remove your glove compartment and the blower comes out with one screw.
Do not insert your keys in the ignition while doing this or you'll trigger an airbag error which requires a VAG-diag tool to clear.

Hi, As above. Very common for bearing to dry out, lubrication usually cures it.

Think I have some, what about a WD40 oil? to get into the bearing?

 

Hi, I believe you can get WD40 in PTFE/Silicone variety, but the normal WD40 may be O.K. to get moving but has no lubricating qualities & will require a decent oil to keep it spinning.

You can't get into the bearing with any type of grease and certainly not silicone grease.

Engine/gearbox oil dispensed via a syringe or hand pump oil can is best.

 

As above it’s a common fault and easy to replace. I tried lubricants and it lasted a short time. I then fitted a new one and it’s been fine ever since. Good luck.

Thank you SwissJetPilot, I will get it out and try and lubricate it first, if it is failed, do you happen to know the fan/blowers part number I should look for? or any links to purchase a replacement.

 

Once you have access to it, there should be a part label on it.

 

Same thing happened to me.

Quick fix was to open up the side panel on the passenger side and you can shine a light in / squeeze your hand through to the blower. I used a garden cane to reach in and manually turn the blower a little with a little push. That fixed it in the short term.

Its happened a couple of times since and I've done the same thing each time. Fixed in a few seconds.

 

Thanks Wrexy, I've seen that solution too, I think i'm going to drop the glove box and extract the blower fan unit so I can give it a proper oil and inspect it. 👍
