2012 2.0L TFSI - Cold Air Intake Recommendations...?

I’ve been searching for a very long time and I have yet to find a cold air intake to fit my car. I have a 2012 Audi TT 2.0L TFSI. I order one a few months back and the mounting bracket did not fit nor did the entire intake as it was way too bulky to fit in my car so i returned it. If anyone can find me a good cold air intake (price isn’t much of an issue but nothing CRAZY expensive) that would fit my car I would GLADLY appreciate it. For reference, here is the picture of my engine bay and the first intake I had ordered.

That's an EA888 engine you have, and it's a 2012 so it's the VL or "Gen 2" variant. Your engine code should be CESA or CETA. You have what is nearly identical to a CCTA or CBFA motor (the Gen 1/non-VL) but you don't have a MAF sensor. (Actually it's possible even the CCTA/CBFA didn't use a MAF on the TT but I'm not 100% sure on that.)

The problem with that Uni intake you pictured (UH002-INA) is that it says for "TFSI" models which is rather ambiguous because Audi used TFSI and "Turbo FSI" terminology all over the place, regardless of the engine type. However for most VW-related badging they call the older EA113 engines "FSI" while the newer EA888 engines (like you have) were called "TSI". You can see your engine cover says "TFSI" as many Audi 2.0Ts do, regardless of what engine family they are, which I can see makes it confusing.

So the intake you pictured is actually for "FSI" or EA113 engines, which is not what you have and hence why it doesn't fit. It also has a MAF drop-in on the top pipe there, which would be another indication that's not the right one.

So really what you want is a "TSI" intake, preferrably one for your particular engine w/o the MAF. The other ones listed for CCTA should fit but you'd have to account for the absence of the MAF... The Uni one which would fit better (but still not 100% correctly out of the box) would be the UH001-INA model. You can see the elbow that goes on the filter and the main pipe are separated. The idea is you're supposed to insert the factory MAF housing (which you don't have) in between those two parts. You'd have to connect those together, possibly using a pipe or tube of the same diameter and tightening down the clamps. If you go on Uni's site you can see they don't actually list a compatible intake for your car, which basically comes down to the missing MAF.

So going from there if you go with intakes that don't replace the main pipe that goes into the turbo, you shouldn't have too much issue fitting them because now the MAF doesn't matter. So the APR and Neuspeed ones should fit, going by what ECS has on their page. The APR ones (PEX and CF are the same just different material and price) you'd need to buy the bracket for the TT, as mentioned on the page.

TBH I would just forget about the intake altogether. It's not gonna do much of anything for performance and is just going to make more noise. Of course if noise is what you're after, that's another story. But for the cost they're not really worth it IMO. For performance best thing to do is just take out the snow guard from the airbox and have a clean filter. I'd save your money for a tune and downpipe, if you don't already have those things--those have a much greater effect on engine power.

Hello Brooke,

Please see the Racingline options available to you.
VWR Intake System Golf 6 GTI 2.0T EA888.1 – RacingLine Canada
VWR High-Flow Panel Air Filter Golf 5/6 TSI, TDI – RacingLine Canada
VWR Intake System Golf 6 R EA113 (K04) – RacingLine Canada
Racingline High-Flow Panel Filter VWR11G501 – Strictly European Motors

Here is a picture of my setup.
After the rebuild came the OEM+ tune up. (atlasdelmar.blogspot.com)

It's the K04 intake system setup for the EA888.2. If you want to purchase this exact drop in system, then you can use this picture and advise its the same system as the one Atlas purchased a few years back. It's just under $800 not including tax or shipping.

Onto my humble opinion...….I will echo what @TT'sRevenge said. You don't really need a high flow air intake system unless your going to be upgrading the turbo, and even then it's not exactly necessary. Race car teams are driving using the OEM intake system, intake manifold etc.

I personally wanted to max out every stage possible before getting to where I am now, therefore I purchased this CAI system with enclosed air filter to shield it from the hot engine bay temperatures. I did notice a quicker spool up on the stock turbo, but after a few days I couldn't even tell the difference as I became acclimated to the new acceleration response.

Your funds would be better spent on a downpipe and stage 2 tune. You could leave everything else except the brakes stock. I would upgrade the brakes to a four pot since I know first hand how much of a difference it made.

Dear OP,

If I had to start over again, I would have spent $ on a downpipe and stage 2 tune. That being said, if you do decide on going down the modification rabbit hole, feel free to message me and I will do my best to respond in a timely manner seeing as we both have the same motor.

Best

thank you for the advice! i originally wanted to just do a downpipe and tune but my dad being the way he is wants to go all out with it. My brother is the same way with his car. they both wanna go all out on their cars so they’re trying to get me to do the same thing 😅 definitely am gonna tell him we need to upgrade the brakes tho !!

Well, I don't blame them, alot of men never really stopped being kids at heart. Any particular questions about your car, feel free to schedule a Google meeting with me at the following email address. atlas.delmar@audiclubna.ca

I'm the director of social media for the North American Eastern Canada chapter. I have tried keeping my car as practical as possible while extracting the most performance out of it which has led me to purchasing a ton of parts. I can tell you what's worth it and what isn't.

Enjoy your long weekend.

haha yeah we have three project cars right now. my brothers and my dad refuse to let go of the cars we have even tho we don’t really have the time to work on them so once i got a car they were all like “omg finally a car we HAVE to work on” my mom isn’t appreciative of it though she finds it stupid and a waste of money but oh well that’s what she has to deal with when all her kids and her ex husband are children when it comes to cars 😂 i blame my dad for my interest in cars lol

anyways, thank you for all the advice i truly appreciate it! i found the intake you suggested and sent the link over to my dad so he could take a look at it too. enjoy your long weekend as well and if i run into any issues i will definitely message you!

I would recommend contacting Racingline Canada as you would get a favorable exchange rate from USD to CAD when purchasing. Most retailers in the states will often charge more than their Canadian counterparts.

You can reach the North America Rep Charles at the following emails. charles@gestionhubcentric.com or charles@racinglinecanada.com and tell him you want the same intake system as Atlas Del Mar and he will set it up and have it shipped in from Europe to you.

I'm currently waiting for a special 90 degree silicone elbow meant for the K04 to be shipped in from Europe, you wont need it unless you plan to go stage 3. I would recommend staying at stage 2 as it's plenty of fun during city driving.

Even if you just install a downpipe and sport cat you will see a good difference in power and sound, and then get the remap done whenever you like after that. Induction kits are stupidly expensive for these cars and I don't think there's much point TBH, the MAF controls what's what, unless you're going mental on modding of course.
