The air con is on unless the ECON button is pressed and illuminated or the left hand side temp adjusted is pulled out and the OFF light illuminated then all ventilation is turned off

On your air con bottom left button marked ECON press it and it illuminates this turns the aircon off but the vents still provide you with ventilation
The left hand toggle that controls temp pull it out and it illuminates and has OFF wrote on it this turns the ventilation off all to gether so you get no air flow from the vents

For A/C to be ON the left Temp control knob should NOT be pulled out, i.e. no light on the knob illuminated; and the ECON button must NOT be illuminated.

Or to put it another way the A/C is OFF if either the ECON light is illuminated or the Temp control knob is pulled out and the light on the knob is illuminated. All other times the A/C is running.

if you press the econ button the aircon light should go out. The car is then working off a digital version of a normal cars heater controls without any aircon assitance at all.(think of it as posh buttons from a 1990 fiesta!) If you pull the left hand knob out the entire ventilation system shuts down completely.

Rule of thumb is that whatever button has a red light in it is WORKING at that time...............

The econ button turns the heating system into a normal one without aircon/climate control etc so you get all the same functions from the digital unit as you would from a 1.1 fiesta with crappy plastic dials (sorry to any fiesta owners, but you get the idea)................. it just looks nicer cos its a TT

In this weather your gonna get hot air through your vents in 5 minutes anyway so having the aircon on is pointless and expensive.........

You do need to blast it once a month or so to get all the milldew off the system etc (it builds up on the external parts of the system when its not being used) or you will get a nasty shock when you use it to cool your car on a hot day............if we get one :?

TT has no air con light as such just the ECON button to turn it off you can have the ECON and AUTO selected together

There is only 3 ways the AC compressor can be turned off when the engine is running.

1.Econ (economy) button pressed.
2.Heater/AC system off (red diode lit and no temp display showing)
3. If the outside ambient drops below around 1c then the compressor will not engage and you can not manually turn it on.

does it make a big difference having the aircon on compaired to "econ" with fuel mpg. only done 280 on my last tank  (thats with air con on)

will the windows still clear with "econ"

pete!
Funnily enough I tried that this week and went from 27.6mpg (what I get everyweek) to 30.2mpg. Turning off the a/c is the only difference so, yes it makes a difference.
