Having my car stranded in France (see http://www.********.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=54&t=157932&p=1774101&hilit=montte#p1774101) has made me think how useful it would be for us to compile a listing of parts that have failed and at what mileage.

I'm compiling the listing in excel and posting an updated version every 3 -6 months. With something like that we all have something to consult and get things checked out or the option to replace pre failure (clutch peddle is a prime candidate)

Your participation is greatly appreciated

I hope folk see the use in this idea. :D

Update 1:
This is what I'm producing from all your responses

Item Min (90%) Max (90%) Car Age (Years)
A 10000 20000 2
B 11000 21000 3
C 12000 22000 4
D 13000 23000 5
E 14000 24000 6
F 15000 25000 7
G 16000 26000 8

*Figures based on the responses of x number of members

Update 2:
It'd be great to have the year of your cars (if not already in your signature)
and the year of failure as some have low/high mileage cars
its possible later cars also had revised (hopefully improved!) parts

Thanks

On my 225 S-Line...

139,000 - Replaced Alternator & Belt with BOSCH exchange unit from ECP
143,500 - Replaced CV Boots and Fuel Pump (luckily I got into South Mimms Services as it coughed its way up the slip road !!)
143,500 - Replaced Passenger Side Window Motor

Fingers crossed for nothing else anytime soon !!

No idea if this is still being used but just in case,
2001, 180, 6 speed. Detailed history only from 55,000mls 2007-present 87,000.

55,800 - Cam belt, Water pump, Pulley belt (assume failed water pump?)
61,600 - Rear brake discs
66,000 - Front Springs
69,800 - Front brake discs
71,400 - Hazard light switch, Catalyst Heat Shield
71,900 - Alarm Siren. Battery
72,800 - Dual mass flywheel. Clutch, Bearing, Rear Springs, Front large bushes?
74,800 - Front ARB bushes
80,900 - Rear ABS Sensors, NS rear wheel bearing
81,200 - Battery, front ABS sensor
83,400 - Rear brake discs
83,400 - Drivers door microswitch
83,400 - Electrical Fault on Dash Repair
84,000 - Mileage somewhere around 84k. Power steering fluid cooler pipe corroded and dumped all fluid, part replaced from breakers.
84,900 - Coil pack failure replaced one and plugs.
86,000 - Coil pack failure. Replaced remaining 3 as 1 replaced recently, OBD also showed an intermittent misfire on 2 other cylinders. One coil pack had failed. Intermittent miss traced to wires on top of head to all 4 coil packs had insulation that had begun to crack/breakdown - temporary but sound repair with insulation tape, ended up left as a permanent repair until it rears its head again or I feel like obtaining new stealer part or splicing new wires in, but I am loathed to cut any wire that is serviceable and just needs adequate insulation (silly and lazy, some may say, I say if it ain't broke, don't fix it!)
87,900 - Four wheel alignment on Hunter Alignment System carried out, yesterday, not pushed it yet, but first impression is it was worth the ÂŁ72 which found excessive toe in on rear nearside and front offside. Front sorted but rear still just outside recommended as without removing the rear arms and cleaning the slots out/ replacing bushes it wasn't going to get there.

Turbo broke up at 83000. Why?????????????? still being repaired. iNTERCOOLERS full of bits so 2nd hand ones being fitted!
Already replaced clutch, flywheel, master cyl x 3 ! Slave cylinder, 2 rear springs ?(fronts plus one rear already done when I bought the car at 63k) cam belt. water pump (kit - in case) hazard switch, clutch pedal switch, headlamp washers, thermostat, dipstick pipe !! (why make them out of plastic??) ARB bushes............
With turbo job will have spent as much as I paid for the car.
NEVER had a car cost me so much. And it was low mileage!

2005 base 180T auto, 82K miles, just bought used in December. Took it to my local indy shop for the look over, this was the laundry list:

-Both front CV boots replace
-Leak in P/S line, power steering pressure hose replace (ouch)
-Leaking transmission pan: sealed leak, replaced gasket, flush/refill trans fluid (also ouch)
-Replace failing hood struts
-Major interval service (75K apparently wasn't done by previous owner): plugs, flush/refill every fluid and replace every filter

All to the tune of nearly $3K US. DRL is out on the passenger's side, need to replace entire headlight assembly to fix, $900 part so leaving it for now (not required in the US).

Engine/belts/brakes/tires all fine...tech said he thought the car had actually been reasonably well taken care of but had probably been sitting for a while before I bought it.

Hopefully the next thing I need to take it in for is an oil change at 86K :-|

Aircon filter/drier thing needs changing every 5 years. It collects debris and moisture which can ruin your aircon compressor. Ask me how I know... It was never done on mine.

Audi don't include it in their service schedule. Updated part is 1J0820191A and you need to also replace 2 o-rings 8e0260749 and lubricate with aircon oil. Parts are cheap but work isn't. It's very difficult to access so you need to remove bumper and of course the work requires emptying and regassing the aircon system...

And I'm also probably the only one to have changed clutch/dmf/pedal full set in 200.000 km. It was still working but almost no material left...

The dryer function can be restored with a double evacuation and the filter will only have an issue if the refrigerant being charged (filled) is contaminated or the system has been broken into (new compressor, hose or some such) and again contaminated. The O rings are not lifed (probabaly should be).

The filter/dryer would normally be replaced if the compressor, hose, condenser, evaporator (common) or expansion device are replaced as good practice.

Where did the 5 year figure come from?

From an experienced aircon service guy and blogger. Mine was also rusty and rotted (sorry no pics) and probably the reason why my compressor seized. It is logical that after some time these will stop trapping moisture...

Also in some countries aircon is used quite a lot more than the UK :)

Nice posting, but the information dates way back...Did this 'spreadsheet' of failures vs mileage ever get sorted and published? Seems easy enough to read through the posts and create - wondering if such a thingy was built by the original poster? Or even for the MkII's? It'd be good information for buying, selling and haggling.
