Has anyone had problems getting the Gala control working with the BOSE sound system?

I have tried all the settings, Off and 1 â€" 5 and nothing happens to the volume as the cabin noise rises. ???

Any ideas?

If you have a Chorus radio, try this:
1. Turn radio off.
2. Press and hold preset button 2, then turn radio on.
3. Radio display will now show Gala "in action".
4. Drive away. See if the displayed number (which is the dB boost being applied to the volume) goes up as you go faster.

If the number goes up, but the volume doesn't change, then there's something wrong with the audio unit. If the number doesn't go up (I think it should reach 3 by about 70mph) then the speed signal isn't being sent to the head unit.

Another thought... the Gala effect is quite subtle (a lot less noticeable than in my Golf, for example), so are you 100% sure it really isn't working? Best to have a passenger with you to put their ear near the speakers while you floor it ;D

Just tried it, at by 40mph Gala was showing 3. No difference in sound increase, I’m pretty sure of that.

Your right about the Golf, I had a Mk4 1.8T before the TT and the Gala was very noticeable.

So you think there’s a problem with the head unit?

Is it something I should just ring the dealer and ask them to add a replacement to my current fix list (which includes, new coolant sender unit, new TT radio cover and new drivers side mirror!). All these problems on a 2 week old car, my Golf was perfect for 18 months. Never mind, the TT’s much more fun to be in, be seen in and drive!

First, be wary about asking dealer to replace the head unit. Yours is only two weeks old - a replacement won't be a new unit, it will be a reconditioned unit, and hence probably older than your original!

If you've only had the TT two weeks, has the Gala always been like this, or was it ok then suddenly stop? I too had a 1.8T Golf, and the difference in the Gala effect between the two cars made me think it wasn't doing much either. Particularly in a TTR, the Gala effect isn't pronounced enough and I'm forever fiddling with the knob (so to speak...).

So, if it's always been like this, get a passenger to listen closely to the speakers to listen for any change in volume... only if you're really, really certain there isn't any would I ask the dealer to change the head unit.

Another thought: I don't know if Gala adjusts the head unit output (ie the 'line'-level signal going to the Bose amp), or whether it adjusts the gain of the Bose amp? Or whether there's some clever stuff between the two. Eg, maybe the head unit recognises the speed signal, and displays the Gala boost, and tries to tell the Bose, but can't?
