Only Fans ... well 1 fan !

Hi all,

The large fan on my MK1 190 BVR Quattro is making a crunching sound some of the time and can be very hard to spin by hand. Most of the time, with the aircon on it wont spin but will if I help it on its way. Audi quoted me €500 for a new one but I'm seeing ones on Autodoc for €30 or €40 !

Is there a tried and tested aftermarket/3rd party/spurious replacement out there.

I think the part number is 6X0959455F and that the only difference compared to the 225 is the shroud.

When I replaced mine I got a new-old-stock OEM for one and a Nissens for the other.

I replaced both my fans with aftermarket 4 years ago on my 3.2, cost me less than £100 for both. Both still going strong.
If one has failed, the other won't be far behind as they both operate together so I would replace both whilst the cowl is out.

I recently replaced both fans. Large fan failed but given the price of after market fans versus Audi-main fans, I replaced both. Plus, having the smaller fan out made it much easier to R&R the larger fan.

Thank you, what a great write up and will really help when I come to do it. Sounds about as much fun as changing the thermostat or pretty much anything else on these cars !
