Ram Air Panel Filter

Not earth shattering news, but worth a comment - I fitted a ram air foam panel filter yesterday - bought it direct from Ram Air for £25 delivered. Piece of cake to fit (once I realised it fits upside down...).
Results, definitely a little bit quicker through the rev range and throttle response is better. Slightly more noise on the induction and the waste gate is now audible, but not excessive.
As it's a daily driver I didn't want woosh bangs and massive induction roar (been there, seen it, done it etc etc), but I'm really happy with it.
If you want a simple, cheap mod - I can only recommend this.

I've just fitted one of these too. After looking for a replacement panel filter and not wanting an oiled one like k and n. Purchased mine on eBay from RamAir but offered £20 which was accepted

Just an update - I found with the new panel filter in place I was getting a weird droning noise around 2000rpm, especially when going uphill. (Think of the noise you get blowing across the top of a bottle).
Must admit at first i thought it was a wheel bearing on its way but after a bit of thought, and the fact it came on when i changed the filter I concluded it was resonance in the airbox.
Refitted the standard filter at the weekend and the noise went away!
On Monday I drilled two 50mm holes in the bottom of the airbox, put the Ram Air panel back in and guess what. No more drone!!
I was expecting more induction noise and more waste gate noise with the new holes, but it's actually quieter now and a bit quicker! Without the holes, although the induction noise wasn't excessive, the waste gate woosh was a little bit "chavvy".

"trayner", sorry I couldn't respond to your pm due to being a new user, but hopefully the information above answers your question.

Mine was delivered today, couldn't get them to accept less than £25 on eBay though. I'm not massively practical, are there any "how to" guides for replacing the panel filter? I've searched on here but couldn't find one. I had a quick look, and removed the two screws on the air box, but the lid didn't come off easily so I left it rather than break anything new on the car.

Thanks!

Have a look at http://www.wak-tt.com/ and work thru :) youll find it.
You dont need to remove those 2 screws fully from the airboxcover, its more of a tilt and lift job.

Thanks very much 3TT3, found the instructions, let's see what damage I can cause on the weekend trying this...

I've fitted the air panel, thanks to Waks fantastic guide. The panel seems a tight fit, but is resting on the top of the box, and I've got the foam (and logo) pointing down, with the wire mesh on the top, does this all sound right before I take it out for a spin? Sorry for the stupid questions, I'm not mechanically minded but if I don't try these things I'll never learn, and I can't find any images of one fitted online. Thanks!

Hi,

Yes you have fitted the filter the correct way around.

Incoming air enters the air box from the bottom. Filtered air then travels on out through the top of the air box via the MAF.

Regards
Thanks MadAnt. I've just taken it for a quick run, and for £25 I don't know if if adds any performance but I do like the childish extra noises it produces :p
