Rear Bose speakers not working in Roadster - Any ideas?

Hi,

Sorry, I know there are many posts regarding speakers not working but I can't seem to find what I'm looking for... well not that I can see anyway! :?

So this afternoon I decided to change my Audi Navigation Plus head unit to a Xtrons head unit but after some issues I decided to take it back out and put the original one back in. When I turned the unit back on, to make sure everything was working ok, it seems it may have possibly reset itself. When I checked the fader settings and had a play I discovered that my all my rear speakers are not working - both the speakers behind the seats and the 2 smaller ones behind the headrests. All the front speakers seem to be fine.

My question is:

Have I possibly done something to the speakers by removing the original head unit, installing the Xtrons unit and then putting the original unit back in?

Or is it just that my rear speakers have just simply stopped working due to another issue? ...all 4 of them?

I'm not too sure how long they have been like this, or if its just from today, but they are definitely now not working. I have noticed for a while now, on and off, that there have been some odd small popping sounds coming from the rear speakers when I am in the car with the engine off so I'm not sure if that indicates any issues?

Any suggestions of what could be the issue would be great as I'm stuck... :? :)

(Ps I have a 2008 MK2 TT Roadster with Bose)

This post in the Knowledge Base might be worth a read as there's quite a lot of information on other Forum member's experiences and problems with the Xtron installation -

Thanks for the replies :)

happychappy - Yes I have been reading about this :? Do you happen to know if I'd need an actual Bose amp replacement or could I get any amp to replace it if this is the problem?

SwissJetPilot - Thanks for all the links. I will be looking into these later. The issue I came across when I put the Xtron unit in was that the volume was ridiculously loud and it was only on the first volume setting!! I played around with the settings but nothing was working to lower the volume at all. I did some Googling to see how I could sort the issue out but to be honest I got fed up after a while and gave up! ...my car seems to be out to get me at the moment with various things! Definitely sounds like a Bose amp problem, esp with the afore mentioned popping sounds.
These are the repair guys everyone on here recommends...

I've not used them myself, as my amp unrepairable, but they seem very highly recommended. You don't say where you are located so I'm not sure if this will be an option for you or not. :)

Chris

Just bought a 2010 mk2 Special edition coupe, and found out with the fader that i also have this problem with no sound from the rear except the thumb from the Sub.

I will try these guys out.

You will need to replace like for like if you wish to retain the Bose system, there are amps that may work, but they are not cheap.

Here is one that may fit the Bill:-

What Audi calls "The Bose Sound System" is exactly that; a system. The 12 Bose speakers are matched to the 8 channel Bose DSP amp. There is also a microphone that in some way, in part, controls the DSP function.

You are likely to be disappointed if you try to replace the Bose amp with an aftermarket one whilst retaining the Bose speakers.

The cheapest way to get a fully functioning system will be to get your Bose amp repaired. Doing anything else will involve a new aftermarket amp and new, possibly fewer, speakers and will be much more expensive and involved.

+1 for these guys, I used them literally a few weeks ago and posted a thread about this as I had the same issue with my rear speakers and bass out of sync.

They repaired the amp and sent it back to me and the difference is night and day! great team and would definitely recommend.

If your rear speakers aren't working consider it a blessing, you don't want those running anyway. In fact if the whole Blose systems quits one day, that's also gonna be a good thing in the long run since when you replace it with actual-good stuff, it's going to be a night and day difference!
