Hello,

I have the issue of my tail light going and have replaced it once not knowing I had to do something before I replaced the other one - hence I’m on my third tail light unit now.
What should I do before replacing it? I don’t know much about mechanics so I would really appreciate some help!
Do I have to ‘earth’ it and seal it somehow?
TIA

There is also another issue with the rear lights that has not been brought up that much. The earth pin burning out on the connector is an obvious one but there is a problem with the "tracks" that transfer the electricity to the bulbs. There are spots where two tracks interconnect and are held together by a plastic tab that is melted and thus "rivets" the tracks together. I have seen (on my car and one other) these spots working themselves loose and the connection between the tracks is lost. The fix is easy, just drill a small hole through them and fix them together with a small screw.

That is a bit overkill in my opinion 😆 but works of course. The screw pushing the tracks together at the fail point will do just fine.

I think OP has him beat on the overkill--has seemingly been replacing entire tail lights this whole time???
