Respray costs?

Hi

Just wondering if anyone has had a respray, just looking for ball park idea of prices. Mk1 in moro blue few scratches here and there but not to bad for a 52 plate. Would be keeping the colour the same but no idea if it would be worth spending the cash for a full respray or maybe just getting a few bits touched in by chips away or similar then getting a professional detail.

Cheers

Around ÂŁ2,000 is a good estimate.

If there's nothing major then it isn't worth it. Give it a full machine polish and smart repair major areas (scuffed bumper corners for example)
Id say that's on the low side for a full respray if your wanting a top job

Hmm think it probably wouldn't be worth while then, given the likely value of the car, 180 60k miles owned for 14 years. Thanks for the replies, will look into smart repairs and machine polishing costs.

Thanks

I agree but your bog standard no inner doors, under bonnet etc with no major repairs and a slight orange peel finish with thrown in overspray on trim.

Depends where you live. Down south you'll get your pants pulled down, while ooop north I got mine for ÂŁ1500 using ICI paint. Metallic/pearlescent will add a bit on the cost too though.
That's a good price! I paid ÂŁ750 to have new sills + arches put in then had rear quarters, both bumpers and bonnet resprayed on my Polo Harlequin. Then had to spend the whole weekend wetsanding and machine polishing the orange peal out

If you find somewhere with low overheads and do a lot of prep yourself, you could get it down to a grand. You may have some remedial work to do at that price though, such as overspray.

I used to know a guy that did body repairs in Newcastle (long since retired now) that took on a few full resprays for me and my family and in general he did a good job. We stripped the cars beforehand and put them back together afterwards. There were always a few little bits to either touch in or rub down, but that was acceptable given the price.
If you're not comfortable doing a lot of work yourself and you want a really good, factory looking job, budget on up to ÂŁ5k.

Mine had been resprayed sometime in the past (red).
I really dislike not having a near perfect finish.
The respray had left certain areas of peeling and overspray on rubbers and some orangepeel/ underspray on the rear "c" pillar.

It sounds worse than it was :).
Solid colours are easier to fix than metallics too.
Still Id once tried a diy respray on another car, its not my thing at all.
In the end I went for a wrap(diy) Im better at it than spraying :)
Its not perfect of course, but if only doing some bits, say wing mirrors or roof to give a qs look, you could keep at it till you get it right.
Materials cost for the whole car , about 200-300 . Labour- priceless
