Hello everyone 👋

Finally after half a year of intensive looking for one it seemed to me that I found one I wanted and I’m (I were…) planning to travel 530 miles and buy it but then I performed my own full hpi despite buying from Evans Halshaw just to be on a safe side.
Unfortunately I found this

There’s so called RMI mileage record which doesn’t tally. Now, I’m puzzled. Should I leave it or just assume that its mots are decisive and these seems intact. I need your help please as prospect of leaving it brakes my heart but if this is only wise way I understand😪

Know how you feel. Had a quick Google and found this so you may be able to fix it if the service suspicion is right and you definitely want the car otherwise...

Q: I believe that a previous mileage entered on your database is incorrect. Can it be changed?

A: In order to best protect you, mileages cannot be removed without evidence to prove they are incorrect. If you think written information that proves a mileage reading is wrong (e.g. Service History, MOT) please supply HPI with a copy of the proof and we will be happy to evaluate and remove the reading where appropriate

Rather than travel that distance can you not have the car brought to a branch closer to you ?

As said service history and MOT history check may resolve the issue, my current car was advertised with 25k miles on it and this was reflected in the sale price, when I got pictures sent through from the dealer the actual mileage was less than 6000 miles, so errors do happen, Audi service records showed the correct mileage.

Wow ! Is that refundable if you purchase the car ?

I’ve never been a huge fan of Evans Halshaw or Arnold Clark, had a few mishaps with them over the years, oil cap left off after a service, torch found in engine bay ………

Nothing is refundable at all. Basically they are terrible in most terms but after waiting & looking for half a year I’d like this one.
I imagine it would be significantly a few grants more at main stealer for same vehicle.

At least one reason the car is at Evans Halshaw is because the mileage discrepancy would drop it out of Audi Approved Used.

It's almost certain that the erroneous mileage should be 26928, but unless you can prove it and have it corrected, you're living with a firm kick in the nuts when it comes to resale, for exactly the reason you're hesitating now.

I had this in January by AUDI who put it out by 4 miles backwards when they did the MOT So it comes up as a warning requiring common sense to briefly read it.

Personally it wouldn't put me off buying it. If you keep it 3 years and have another 3 regular mileages in front of it, it won't look like such an issue, and it looks like an error.

Depends on the car I would say. If its got a rare combination of all the options, spec, colour and trim level, then still go for it.

Get a VCDS full scan done, that should show the true final mileage on the report.
I think you can also look at the measuring values in the 02 Gearbox module as the gearbox keeps its own log of mileage (usually displayed in kilometres).

Also if there are any logged faults they sometimes display a timestamp along with the mileage.

Hope this helps.

Yes thanks. The issue may be that sellers do not want or permit you to play around with settings etc. or may refuse you access to plug a device in. Sadly if that's the case then you are reliant on the records held by the DVLA and HPI or hire an expert to do a vehicle check.
