I visit the Ring sunday with some friends, and i didn;t know they made a sneaky movie from me.
I had in this lap a small moment comming out the fuchsrohre with a speed above 200km/hour 8)
On the Movie you can see how stabile the MK2 is on a circuit with magnetic ride...

We did a lot of laps, and had great fun.
Enjoy the movie...

Looks like an average Sunday morning commute to the office after a rough Saturday night.

Seriously it looks like you had lots of fun. I'm jealous. [smiley=thumbsup.gif]

Nice video. It's interesting how the rear of the car seems to 'go light' through certain fast sections, the most notible being Schwedenkreuz, Klostertal and also Wippermann.

I presume the lack of quattro balast on the 2.0T produces this effect - it's most disconcerting as a spectator. Does the rear of the car feel light on these sections e.g a twitch or lack of balance?

Very good point Kevin!
Indeed the car feels at some sections light in the back.
My MK1 did this the same at this points, and i learned how to handle this fact. But it can be very tricky. Specialy in a fast corner like schwedenkreuz where you drive 200km/hour you don't want a light back.

I also think it would be better to have the option to leave the backspoiler up. Because when you reach a fast corner, and you brake hard, the spoiler lowers, but maybe when it stayed up al the way thrue the corner you would have more downforce on the back?

i drove with 2.5 on the fronttyres and 2.3 in the back tyres.
Did 12 laps. It's a pitty he didn't film the last laps.
Magnetic Ride is fine suspension, not only in the sportsmode, but also in the comfort-mode.
It;s worts every penny

I watch the video again and you didn't lift off, so the car is defo going 'light' through Schwedenkreuz. It would therefore be a good test to see how good and effective the rear spoiler is if you can keep it up, especially though Schwedenkreuz where I think it lifts the most in your video(due to the VERY high speed nature of the bend).

This pic of Schwedenkreuz demonstrates exactly what I mean - the crest falls immediatly as the bend starts meaning the rear of the car will go 'light' as the weight transfers from back to front;

Schwedenkreuz for me though holds very bad memories because when I was there last a chap in a M3 died when he clipped the kerb on the inside and barrell rolled it several times into the gravel, ending up in the barrier on the right. He died instantly and it shook everybody up from our group who went.

Kevin, sorry to hear that you where there when that accident happend.
There are many people who believe that every weekend people died on the Ring, but there are indeed some year's that one person died. Not every year.
The most people died on the roads surround the ring, while they are speeding thrue little villages or narrow roads.

Abouth that picture and accident...
Never, never hit the kerb on the inside at schwedenkreuz.
You have to leave 50 centimeters at least from that cerb.

Many kerb's are very high on the nurburgring, so you don't hit them.
Specialy with high speed, because you can keep the car straight than.
Also on the wet, a little touch with the kerb can end badly.

There are points on the circuit where you must drive very near to the Kerb at the appex, but never hit them.

@ everybody.... Kevin has a very good point. Is there anybody who is very handy with car-electronics, and can tell me how i can dissable the "spoiler-function".............for a day on a track?
So not perminent.

Very nice vid Rob [smiley=thumbsup.gif]

Not too many errors, and those where only minor ones...+ a couple of very nice (but still safe) overtakings

I think we have about the same speed on the Ring, so it would have been very fun to drive some laps together. 8)

It's now only one week til we leave for the Ring AND Spa, and untill then I will be on a roundtrip on the westcoast (the fjords) and the mountainside in Norway - but on my bike this time.

Here you can see what's waiting for me....:

Looks like a real leather fetish party over there !!
Do i see Toshiba standing over there in the middle?
Great view , i love it. (the landscape i ment)

Thx Arne, for your comment.
I know you did also a lot off laps on the Ring, with your bike and with car.
Indeed there are some faults in miy driving line....and i saw them directly.
This kind of vid's from behind your car are superb for learning.

I can tell you a little about how this vid was filmed.
The driver from the M3, drove in the early morning 2 laps with me.
Than i drove some laps with him.
Than the track was closed for more than one hour, and we drove with my car to Breidscheid, so we could eat something.
After the dinner we drove back in my car, and i suggest we drove 2 laps together in our own car, because he still had some problems with some corners.
When we reached his car, at the parking near the ring in inmdiatly went to the entry, and drove away.

and in that moment on the straight i thought........"shit, elmar's tyre's are still cold, and his engine also....
So you can see me go slower after i pass the bridge and the first corners, i let him come near.
When i noticed he could follow easely i drove faster.

I didn't know he would film me.
But when we went thrue the "fuchsrohre" i looked at the speed, and saw we did 200 km/h in the lowest point.
Don't know what are why, but i totaly missed my line when we went up, and ik drove too much to the right.
Normaly i never have any problems, at this point, but the speed was too high in that corner uphill to get the car back to the left. I was afraid for a spin, so i drove the inside, where you have to break a lot harder before the next corner at "adenauer forst"
The line i drove they also call it eh "kampf-linie"
it means defending-line.....when some-one want to overtake you can drive this line to close the door

Arne, maybe i will visit the ring again in that same weekend you are there, but i dont know for sure.
I have youre fone number, if so.

In oktober we go with some guy's to Spa and the next day to a circuit in Malmedy, for a some instruction-day's. Will make pic's and movies .

Thanks Rob. The few corners where you miss the line a little (a bit late turn in), is actually more or less the same corners where I might be a bit off as well some times  It's very difficult to manage to drive one lap without any minor errors - at least if you also try to keep a good speed

I have also filmed a lot of laps with a camera attatced to the bike (it films both the instruments and the track forwards). It's very helpfull as a tool to learn from.

I don't remember what speed I had in fuchsrohre with my car (I think I had more than enough with keeping the correct line watching where I went  ), but on my bike I have had 270 km/h in the bottom (I have it on vid). My helmet slamed in the tank when "hitting" the bottom... :D

But on "flugplatz" (I think thats the name?) I had 240 km/h with the car when letting go of the throttle just before braking for the left high speed curve (at the smal jump after the long straight followed by a left and then a 180 right - just before fuchsrohre). I was impressed that the car was able to reach that speed there :)

I do know the kampf-line in Adenauer forst. It's a tricky combination, and not easy to get thru in good speed. This is also the only place where I have been of the track with my bike. It was my 4 lap ever, and the first on my own (without anyone in front that knows the track). I did not crash, but did a pretty good jump of the curbs in the first left curve..... I had forgotten that the curve got tighter on the top.....

Regarding anyones leather fetish - this is me in my bike-outfit, so you can recognize me if you come down that weekend. You see my bike in the avatar (160 bhp and 165 kg dryweight... ) Leather is good to have if you slide on the tarmack......

In one hours time I am of for the trip in Norway..... :p
