I'm happy to be convinced otherwise. AYLY (the mk1 3.2) already has the OEM cd player in and I have a bluetooth converter in the lighter socket, so it all works...I just don't like the fact that it's there...staring at me...

IF I was to install the sqr46 what is the process for amending of VAG?

Does someone like e.g. Road Radio - Car Audio, Car Stereo, Car Radio & navigation Equipment know of these kind of details?

As ever, sincere thanks in advance.

Thats a nice looking stereo, won't look out of place like some of the modern units

With regards to fitting you'll need an adaptor harness.
The adaptor will depend on what system you have.
From memory, there are 3 options
  • Non Bose
  • Half Bose
  • Full Bose
You'll also need to run a switched live to the head unit
I tapped into the yellow supply bolt under the steering wheel

Easy access to this by removing the lower panel.
This is not fused so its wise to put a fuse inline.

This is how I did mine when I fitted my Nakamichi head unit

that's extremely helpful. thank you.

I think it's a full bose (3.2 V6 auto with bose stickers on the door on bottom woofer (I assume) and tweeter above with speakers hidden somewhere in the rear as well that I have yet to find)
...that's the full extent of my knowledge at present..o_O
I tend to find the perfect solution (based on aesthetics) then work out how to fit the world around it.
(I, somewhat disturbingly, definitely have a certain european countries blood flowing in me)

now I've found this:
which, though no usb/sd/aux inputs, appears flipping good for a LOT less dosh/hassle...

Thats not bad, the only issue I have found with that style of thing is the BT audio is very quiet
I don't mean to sound dumb (it just happens) but I don't even know what BT audio is, nor it's purpose...
I'll google it...

Bluetooth Audio :)
When playing music through your phone via the bluettoth adaptor, you have to have the volume higher on the stereo. This is fine until you forget and switch to the radio
Honestly, I never listen to the radio. 😅

If your happy with the cigarette lighter adapter you have a cheap and easy mod is to buy another cigarette lighter plug and fit it to the trim beneath the climate control and wire it to the switched live, its then hidden and doesn't have to be unplugged.

lovely. he clearly has the same (ocd) problem I have with just stuff being open/there...
I confess I tend NOT to touch gas, water, or electrics if I can help it...having said that I've ordered the
so I'll start simple, with that, and then think about installing a double usb like the above very good/clean install.
then I'll see how it goes and if I even need the blaupunkt.
:D

I was looking at fitting the same headunit as the sony I fitted looked terrible and I couldn't close the flap to hide it.
Went with a Blaupunkt Nuremberg 200 DAB BT in the end as it was quit a bit cheaper and the knob looked smaller. Sounds great and doesn't interfere with my flap and looks like it was ment to be there.

I may be on the way to find a very cheap alternative whilst keeping the mult-cd player (which, I confess, I never use AND I discovered that the previous owner left BARRY MANILOWS GREATEST HITS (which is, surely, an oxymoron) in it................................).
Bought this:
fed a wire behind the steering wheel and mounted bottom EDIT: right (not left) of dash display(fits perfectly), so 99% all hidden
and this:
which leaves just enough room with the right usb cables (depth of usb/c join and protruding cable is vital e.g.
end bracket)
and use a
which means I can close the bleeding ashtray!
negatives:
one needs to use the m5 to change tracks if one needs to.

will probably install
to make life a bit more simple.

sad, I know.

I had a look at the bt modules. But I had just got the right iso harness and it was almost as much as a head unit.
the bluapunkt is marvellous. good, sensible, choice. I'm going to see how it all goes with the cheap method (as I'm coughing up on (re)new ronals/tyres and other silly bits...spend, spend, spend...needs to stop for a while...

For some reason I always read bt as British telecom and, therefore, ignore anything to do with it... What a numpty.

Fitted the
Took about five minutes. Works very well, though doesn't remember Bluetooth when you switch off and defaults to either CD or radio... Otherwise good.
Edit: not the 🎤

Its good to know it works. Does it forget the Bluetooth device so you have to re pair it every time? or is it just the input defaults to radio/cassette on startup?

good question.
it has to re-pair each time but I think that may be down to the
and it's, slightly odd, interaction with ignition/usb on/off.
Have yet to try it with a mobi (sick of being tracked everywhere by everything, so mobi settings are all off - I use a damn map in my head and/or get lost and enjoy it etc.)
It's not really a bother, one just has to mentally adjust to the quirkiness. I should really try it with a mobi at some point.
EDIT: changed this:
for this:
as it gives about 2mm more room for the closed ashtray and usb cables:
https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0CWTX2CZ6?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details
(also specifically chosen for teeny joins)
so sad...but happy...now.

That's a pain. it sounds like it needs a battery in the module or some form of storage. About 2 weeks after you give in and fit a headunit someone will release another bt module with that issue fixed.
Amazon says I have the same usb adapter. I must have got it before i wired in the usb ports in my truck

haha, yes, that's extremely likely. However, I've made my mental decision to NOT do anything else (except the alloys/tires) because I'll go (even more) mad otherwise...I will not give in to temptation...
