Timing chain & DMF replacement cost?

Checked on VCDS -8/+8 so it's needing to be done ASAP. I was told to do the Dual mass flywheel at the same time. Should I also get the belts checked and any tensioners done as well?

I noticed since the cold weather, when I turn left (probably happens when I go right but most of my journeys are left turns) in low gear I have a touch of a whine from what I presume is the DSG. 3.2 DSG / Quattro. Needs a major service and a full fluids all round I suspect. Is my DSG going bad? I can do the reset again in VCDS but could it be something else doing it? I'd loathe to part with it a Mk1 3.2 DSG Quattro with 79k on it.

What kind of cost damage am I looking at for a timing chain & DMF, manifold gasket, DSG & Haldex service?

A DMF is more like ÂŁ500 these days, chain kit about ÂŁ400, probably need new bolts for subframe, may as well do aux belt and tensioner whilst there. Clutchpack whilst DSG is off? I reckon you'll be looking at ÂŁ3k

Shed’s had dmf done 2018, and chains done in the last 6 months. I had to employ some top-level Man Maths to justify the cost - around the £3.5-4k mark, and that was without replacing the brace of £600 actuator solenoids since they seem to be working fine.

Frustratingly, the garage who did the work (and who shall remain nameless) have left a bit of a mess - damage to aircon seals and a nearly-severed compressor wire - which I only discovered Friday when I pulled the undertray to give her a service :-/

I’m still very happy I had the work done as there’s no other car I’d enjoy as much as the 3.2 that I could afford :)

I love it too much and a few grand getting it done for another 70k+ on it seems like a steal to me.

I got a quote in from Kent Automotive, waiting on 4Rings for a quote still

So I'm basically buying the car again...

You think this is a reasonable quote? I mean, It's a LOT of money but to keep it on the road, I think I'd rather pay it than get rid of her.

I also thought about getting all the bushes done at the same time, a whole powerflex kit is about ÂŁ285

Depends, if you weren't having the chains, dmf, and clutch done all the other costs are basic regular servicing costs for these cars. The big cost items your looking to address are hopefully only 1 time items in your ownership. Given the amount of work your having carried out I'd be tempted to see if some of the Labour durations could be reduced on the general servicing items. Also appears the cost of the rocker cover gasket includes a new rocker cover is this required? If you enjoy the car and plan to keep it then I'd go for it.

I think I said the maifold gasket needed doing, not sure if it's intake or rocker gasket, I think it's just the intake one but I have no idea.

When I start her up sometimes it sounds a bit hollow, there's no holes in the exhaust so i presumed it was the intake manifold.

Probably is intake manifold gasket. Cheeky fuckers asking for 1.5hrs labour to do the clutch when it all has to come off anyway to do the timing chain. I'd also query whether the timing chain kit from febi includes both the middle sprockets. If not, you want to add those in.

ÂŁ320 for a rocker cover gasket also seems excessive

Don't understand why they've quoted for a new cam cover.
The gasket is available on its own, you don't need to buy a complete new cam cover.

If the reason is due to a failed PCV valve (which is inside the cam cover), then you can simply replace the part that links to the inlet manifold with the Cayenne version which has the valve in that link piece instead.

Thanks, so there's about ÂŁ350 off that bill to begin with. I also have a K&N brand new air filter so they can keep their one for ÂŁ14. Their spark plugs are about ÂŁ30 over what they should be and the haldex service kit is a bit dearer.

I'll see if 4Rings can do better but when you try and email them you get this.

Does anyone have an email for them?

I am also looking at getting my chains done in the next 6-12 months, based not too far from the Kent area (East Sussex) so very interesting to see the prices being quoted. Would be very grateful in seeing what 4rings come back with, just to compare quotes across multiple companies :)

Once your start paying 4k for work on 4k car, it's pointless wasting hours of your and their time squabbling over ÂŁ300.

I wish I bought that v8 4.0 supercharged Jaguar S-Type "R" for 4k instead of the baby v6 3.0 se for ÂŁ1600 back in 2005

I actually feel dizzy looking at 3rd and 4th columns in your prices....

Just think about how many scratchies you could buy for 4 thousand and 500 pounds.... :D
