TTS manual launch control

Just realized that there is a launch control function on the manual cars also.
I always knew that with traction control on and the car stationary you could push the accelerator to the floor and the engine would only rev to around 4000rpm, but with it turned off the engine would rev to the redline.
With traction control on the launch would just bog down as the electronics did its thing.
Today I tried all the above, but with the revs stable at 4000 with the foot flat to the floor, I turned off the traction control and the revs remained at 4000, then just a matter of dumping the clutch and away you fire.

Interesting way of getting the steady 4k rpm, might give it a go myself
It will be Interesting to know if this is the same on the TTRS or other manual TT's.

I know my car was an Audi owned car delivered to New Zealand for the press and dealerships to drive. It was possibly the first of its type into the country, I have found articles and photos about my car on the net.
If other cars don't seem to have this function maybe Audi have modified to do this since it was a press car. Please let me know guys if your car does or doesn't do this.
Cheers
Paul
Ps can't see how it could do anymore damage launching like this compared to the S-tronic, same strain on the driveline once the clutch is engaged.

Wish the 3.2 had this function!

This hack really works! I just tried it in my TTS. Read this post at gone 3am and couldn’t wait to try (dead of night in city is the best time to try anyway ;)) so I was having a fast run and on my way back on a nice long open straight I stopped the car middle of the road, planted my foot and it climbed to 4k, then I did as instructed above and pressed traction button, traction was then disabled but RPM stayed at 4k!! Then with a grin ear to ear like a child I dumped the clutched and off she flew! WOW what an experience, there was a bit of wheel spin but she handled it well and soon gripped up all four wheels and rocketed off (I’m literally near the legal limit on all four tyres so I know I can get better traction off the line) ..This isn’t a glitch guys, it’s totally within the realms of what Audi would have intended from the factory. New auto BMWs have a similar tricky LC system apparently? …Long story short this is an amazing hidden feature that I didn’t know my 6spd manual TTS has. I will defo be using this in the future. Can’t wait to get some new tyres now lol!

Yeah a bit of a thread necro here but since it has already been done...

The 4K limit is not launch control, lol. It's the idle/stationary rev limit. It's the same rev limit which you'll see in the DSG car while in Park or Neutral.

In doing this with the MT, you're just taking advantage of this in order to dump the clutch and do a launch that way while not exceeding 4K RPM; but this is neither a factory feature nor ever recommended or endorsed by Audi (as is LC, which is a feature that is outlined in the manual). If you had a tune which removes the idle/stationary limiter, this "LC" would disappear since then you could free-rev the engine to redline while stationary.

Consider the DSG is the stronger of the two transmissions, stock; and, the factory LC on the DSG is like 3200 RPM (IIRC). So launching the manual at 4k like this--I mean hey it works--but might not want to make much of a habit of it.
