I plan on removing the engine of my 2001 Audi TT MK1 and rebuilding it in addition to a big turbo and other things. However, I did the math after shipping and some labor the cost would be roughly the same if not more than to get a 2.5L TFSI engine and a new gearbox for the TT MK1. My question is has anyone done anything like this before and does anyone have any information that could help me? The big issue that I could see myself running into is simply getting the engine to fit in the engine bay of the MK1. If anyone has any measurements of either the TFSI engine or the MK1 engine bay that would be great. Another thing that would greatly help is would the mounting be similar if not the same between the 1.8t and the 2.5l TFSI. Thanks for any help.

Anything is possible ? Would a small block V8 fit 😆
The standard unit is a gem. Unless you've got problems why change it ? Just map it and enjoy what you've got.
My standard Apx engine as standard out performs a porsche boxter, I guess it depends on how far and how much money you want to throw at it.

Yes... someone on here ran a tfsi in their TT for years.. can't remember who it was and not sure if is was the 5 or 4 cylinder version.

If you're going that left-field check on Tuffty's thread on AudiSportNet 8L he's documented moving a v6 in with a big turbo... he previously built a 600+ 1.8 big turbo stroker (tfsi crank) B5 cams, but wanted a v6 big turbo experiment. Karl (desertstorm) fitted and mapped a DSG with his 1.8 G550 BT..

There's lots of options none are really cheaper alternatives... :)

EA885 and it's own gearbox should bolt on quite easily, in fact biggest problem would be front drive shafts I think.

Personally I would go with Evo version (Aluminium block) as it's lighter and has port injectors as stock. Though even base EA885 does have intake manifold that has non machined injector places, and ECU can be flashed to use intake injectors as well. Why would you want intake injectors you ask?

Well you will run out of FSI injector units quite fast if really pushing power and/or swapping to E85.
