Good evening all

Recently purchased this 2010 TTS, only 41k and been well looked after.
It's an auto (too much nose to tail traffic everywhere nowadays for me to want a manual) and lovely to drive.
I did have more pics, but have lost my phone, will add some more once that is sorted.

Primarily bought it as I'm driving to the South of France this summer, and wanted a convertible for the trip.

After spending ages looking into how to add a space saver wheel, I then read one comment somewhere that pointed out that you need to store the full size wheel you have taken off, and as the car will be full of luggage, that was a lightbulb moment, and the story endeth there 🤪😂 (thankfully before I'd actually spent any money). Two cans of Holts now added to the boot instead.

The only thing that is not great on it so far are the rear parking sensors...in the manual it states that they will go to a solid beep at 30cm, but it's more like 10cm on mine, so have ended up 'kissing' the wife's car a couple of times.
Can those be adjusted?

Oh...and the Cruise control is in a bit of an annoying place, why couldn't it have been on the MFSW 🤷‍♂️...I have indicated a few times instead of moving the CC stalk.

I'm sure I will have more Q's, so thanks in advance 🚙

Rear heated screen broken elements - Permatex makes a repair kit. More info in this post and this link to Amazon (UK).
Thanks...just had a look at the screen, most of the bottom element is black, and a good chunk of the second row too. I'm fairly sure I'd make it look terrible if I tried to paint it back on even with a masking kit 😂, so will leave it for now.

The majority of it works fine, and them bottom clears eventually as enough of the screen is being heated.

Hopefully no more of it breaks!

Did not get time to sort the parking sensors pre-trip, but just spoke to Audi and the reckoned £200+ per sensor for the part, colour coding, & fitting 🤢
However they said, they rarely see any fail, so 3 out of 4 perhaps is more likely wiring.
They also said that their records don't show the car having them, so they are presumably aftermarket.
Both of those statements have led me to use a mobile auto electrician to have a look in the first instance....fingers crossed.
Parking Sensors update

Several people I contacted said that the aftermarket ones have a bit of a shelf life, and by the time I'd paid for someone to come out and test them/fault find etc., I'd be better to just replace them. At quotes of £330 for fitted colour coded replacements I was a bit hesitant, but then got recommended to someone mobile who did the job for £199, bargain !

All sorted (y)

...so, the car drove like a dream on the 1,700 mile round trip to France

Auto and cruise control made it super effortless (although the 'stalk' still annoys me, s/b on the MFSW).

Didn't make quite as much use of the convertible as I'd hoped on the way down (northern France rain, southern France 35 degrees+), but had it down most of the way back.

The main issue with the combo of roof down, leather seats, and those temps was that I was soaked in sweat 😰 by the time we got anywhere, anyone found a solution for that....seat covers/coolers etc?

We got a toll tag thingy too which was great, it meant no tickets or cash required at any of the tolls, just drive up, it beeps and the barrier goes up, pedal to the metal, gone.

Just checked the oil level, and it didn't use any on the trip, bonus!

IMHO the cheap half cover is a "as needed" solution only. I would not encourage anyone to leave it on all the time. Mine goes on if I have to leave it outside knowing there's; (a) cats (b) sappy trees (c) birds esp. owls (d) snow/ice (e) possible massive downpour where the roof drains may be compromised.
I went for the middle cost version in the end, seems decent enough, and as a brucie bonus the bag is co-ordinated with the car colours 😂

Squeaky brake - Is it intermittent or constant? It could be something as simple as glaze on the rotor, in which case it's a pretty easy DYI - you just need a rotary power tool and a Scotchbright pad. Worse case is a sticky caliper piston.
Hi - just been reading the forum on squeaky brakes as the car is going in for a service soon, and hopefully I can ask the garage to do some of the suggested fixes

It seems like the 4 most simple fixes are:
  1. Use the breaks hard (regular emergency type stops) and wash the dust out when I clean the car. This may take a few months.
  2. Put CeraTec grease on all moving parts as well as their backs & grease the slider bolts with CeraTec grease
  3. Scotch-pad the rotors (is this the disk surfaces?) - "Squeal can also be caused by glazed rotors which usually has a bright, mirror like surface. Pull the wheels and hit the rotors with a ScotchPad pad (easier with a power tool) on both sides. I had a local shop do mine, they only charged me 20-Euro for all four"
  4. Chamfer the leading edge of the pads
I'm guessing I could ask the garage to to do 2 as it does not require any disassembly?
At the same time get a quote for 3 & 4 in case 2 does not work.

I have never so much as taken a wheel off a car 😝, so it's not a DIY job.

Edit: Made this its own thread : Squeaky brake solutions

Yes you would get the shock light on, on the dash if there were an issue. For UK prices, if I use LLL parts site, looks like the shocks are about 500 GBP each, so think a car dealer may have gotten them discounted or whatever, about 300 cheaper is perhaps a lot cheaper but not totally unbelievable--these places don't stay in business doing this stuff by paying retail prices for parts. You could easily tell anyway by just looking through the wheel if they are new. You might be able to see the p/n on the shocks as well but most likely whomever installed them would have turned the sticker to the inside (you can install them either way but most people would put the sticker on the inside so it's not visible), in which case you'd have to lie on the ground and get a look from the other side.

From the sounds of it, they're new/proper shocks on there, which is pretty nice on a used buy though I'm not sure what you paid for the car compared to market value. Seems like a good used car place though.
Thanks...I think the price is close enough to be realistic (esp. 12m ago), and I have no warning lights or issues...and I remember that the dealer was a bit sick about what he'd had to spend on shocks 😂, so I'm now comfortable they are likely the proper items.

Edit - in fact just seen this on another thread, so that's pretty bang on what my receipt is for:
"Bite the bullet and fork out the £££ for OEM Audi magride shocks, they were about 375 each plus vat!!!"

@SwissJetPilot, I don't have a scanner but as per the above, I think I'm all good ta.

Edit #2 : Just had a look underneath, I can see they have 'TTS' labels on them, so all good.

Well you'd only have four magride dampers--not like you could really have two magride on one axle and then standard susp. on the other....unless someone did some ghetto hack job on the car or something.

But if you mean if the magride was replaced with standard susp., well you'd have to have a delete kit/resistors plugged into the connectors on the car as it's not easy to eliminate the option.
I'm sure it's probably fine, but on the receipt for the work done pre-sale, I can see 'Genuine Audi Shock Absorbers' @ £710+VAT for a pair of rears (not fitted), which I think is cheaper than I have seen members referring to on here, hence my concern?

Would I get any dash error, or would the Magride button not work, if they were just ordinary rather than Magride shocks for example, or would it only show up on a scanner?

Now a bunch of questions :)

Squeaky brake
My driver side front brake squeaks about 50% of the time on the final 25% of the pedal push. I had hoped it would clear over time, or that during the caliper cleaning & painting it might get fixed, but nope. Is it likely to be something stuck between the pad and disc, and if so presumably I can get a garage to disassemble it and clear it out?

Condensation
I get a lot of condensation on my front screen early in the morning (I’m using it as a station car a couple of times per week). Nothing in the car or boot is wet.
My blowers dont seem to shift it particularly quickly as it takes 10 mins for them to warm up, by which time I'm nearly at the station!
I tried the shaving foam option I found from googling, but that seemed to just make a mess, unless there is a knack to it?
Any other screen cleaning products that help with this?
Would putting the half cover on help I wonder

Rear heated screen broken elements
The bottom 2 or 3 strips do not come on, is there any fix for that (Roadster)? Not a major issue as the screen still clears well.

Magride
Is there an easy way to confirm that I have 4 magride shocks, rather than something else as I see people on here using other options?
I know the dealer had the rears done as part of getting the car ready for sale, so Im suspicious that he wouldn’t have paid for the right items.

Thanks in advance (y)

Info posted above the temp display usually pertains to radio / CD info.
108.0 is the highest FM radio frequency, so maybe ? Try switching input source or radio station on your RNS-E / Concert head unit and see what happens.
See ….NUMPTY [emoji23]

It’s exactly that, I have an FM transmitter set to that , but for some reason forgot…probably as I was having roof issues which made me think it was some sort of error code !

Thanks vm [emoji1303]

I’m probably going to look like a right numpty now, but on my digital display, above the temperature, I am seeing a number displayed and I don’t know what it means? The number is 108.0, and there is nothing to indicate what it means. It does not go up or down either. What is it??

Also, a couple of 'newbie to auto' Qs on how to use the auto box :giggle:

If I set it to S for a fast take off, but then want to drop it into a cruising gear as I approach the speed limit, what is the process?
Hold the selector button and push it forward into D? I tried that, but it was all a bit 'lurchy'
...or perhaps I should have used the + flappy paddle to get it up to M6, then switch to D?

The +/- on D, is that engaged by holding the selector button and pushing left (i.e. away from myself)...and can that be done which already driving?
Edit : just tried that and it worked fine BUT now my + paddle seems to have stopped working  ( '-' is fine), any ideas?

I think I read somewhere, that you dont need to take your foot off of the accelerator while using paddles or +/-, is that correct?

Cheers

I got a lot good humored ribbing by other Forum members for these. But after my first trip down to Gibraltar I swear by them! Cool in summer, toasty in winter. Plus my wife, who's quite small, doesn't slide around on the leather anymore. Easy enough to care for - toss them in the washing machine and then let them air dry.

Looks like you can still get them on Amazon.

Thanks...I think 😆...they really would be function over form if I went for them.
Amazed they keep you cool though, but sounds like you have given them a good testing.
It's certainly good to have a fallback option....and at least they do them in black which means they won't stand out too much in mine.

This is the half cover I bought - £20.36 . You can find it on Amazon co uk - Click here.

Inflation hey, £31 now !

I think I slightly prefer the more tailored fit of the more expensive one, although not sure it needed the 'ears' in a different colour :sneaky:

...but now I have seen this one, even more fitted @ £95, which looks smarter still 🤑

Some reviews on Amazon and the thread below mention that the cars get scratched
