Looking at a Mk1 3.2V6Q DSG Coupe in Avus Silver with Red Leather, 9-Spokes and BOSE. Its a Jan 2004 model with approx 27K from a main dealer. Going for a test drive on Sunday and wondered what sort of thing I should look for?

In my opinion a 225. Much more moddable and less understeer to dial out :p

Make sure you get a good discount as it is heading towards the end of the month and they will have targets to meet on their used cars ;)
Yep. Listen to Mrs Sensible [smiley=book2.gif] :p

For a heavy vehicle they hold the road well in their standard form....

The issue of understeer is negligable... It really is....

Unless you are track racing every day...and require a vehicle set up to acheive a specific goal...If you wish to spend money on mods, this can be rectified...

Many people hear of others talking of understeer and immeadiatly inform others of this without ever driving a V6 let alone performance testing a part or reviewing the vehicle as a performance vehicle which it isn`t ...The 225 also has understeer..If you wish to purchase a TT to race in its standard form, which I doubt, you`ll lose time in the corners..If like the majority of us you purchase one because you like the look, general performance and wish to liase with all of us good people here on the forum then you`re in for a winner....

As for other mods if you want to spend a good few thousand pounds you can put a big turbo kit on it and hit 60 in circa 3 secs..

So much for less modable eh ?

Regards..

A good extended warranty on the dsg. Some big repair bills been seen, talk to rogue about that.
Im no fan of dsg (I bought a manual V6) but to be fair, a couple of issues on here with dsg compared to the number out there is hardly condeming the dsg box.
The problem is though, Leg, there have been reports of it happening on other vehicles across the VAG brand, so it's not just TT related and points to something being wrong with the DSG box in general.

However, it IS a brilliant piece of kit when it's working, and as long as you're covered by warranty you should be ok.

V6 engine is aluminium block and it's a VR6 - compact, single head. 1.8T engine is iron block and there's extra parts - turbo components.

V6 extra weight infact comes from the DSG gearbox being heavier, bigger brakes and a couple of extras that come standard with the V6. But they moved the battery to the boot and so the front end weight is just about the same as 225s and infact it's the rear that's heavier.

V6 does sit 20mm higher than 1.8Ts and that could increase the "understeer" feel, but springs can be easily replaced for little money.

Someone said something about DSG. Well, I haven't seen any manual gearboxes failing on this forum. And they have been out there 8-9 years. DSGs have been out there 3 years and a huge number of them have failed. They are a marvelous idea and work great when operational and I wish they perfect them so their reliability is on par with manuals, but as for the current ones, I feel compelled to warn people of the possible huge bill.

Thanks guys. Well I am not too concerend about understeer as I wont be racing it. Have already had a 225 so fancy something different and had already considered that it was the end of the month so will be looking for discount!

Do it mate.

I made the jump from a 225 to the V6 (with a Beamer in between  ). It's a different car all together...not better, not worse.

And a GREAT colour combo you've chosen! :p :p

Yeah I like the colour combo - thanks.

What sort of discounts should I expect then?

Knowing Audi not a fat lot...

Independant dealer, I`d certainly start off at 10%....
