Before i begin, heres wishing everyone a Blessed New Year!
I have had my beloved TT for just over a month, and am absolutely loving it. The handling is pretty great, and the grip you get out of the quattro is just fantastic. However i'm a little disappointed with the upper end performance. The 320nm of torque coming out from the VR6 is good enough for me. But the 250hp sees me wanting more upper end grunt. Especially when overtaking at 55mph/90kmh. The car doesn't feel powerful enough.
I have a budget of ÂŁ600, and as such am leaning towards getting an ECU reflash. I have since narrowed my search down to two different options. I could either go for a custom remap, where i have been promised a MINIMUM 25hp improvement, or as the title states: a Unitronic flash of my ECU. I'm told to expect performance figures to be 265hp and 345nm.
Both the Curstom ECU Remap, and Unitronic, are within my budget. As such i would like to appeal to fellow members for their advice and feedback as to which i should go for. Also, for the Unitronic Chip, i'm told that there are a total of THREE different stages. I'm aware of this, but does the Stage 1, Stage 2, Stage 3 apply for Naturally aspirated cars as well? Which is why for the custom remap, i'm told that its just a ONE time thing, and if i ever upgrade the car with say a cold air intake, or upgrade the exhaust, they would just re-tune the car for me without added charge. Please advice!
I have been assured by both that i would not get the "check engine light".
Currently, i'm leaning towards the custom remap, as i'm promised to see greater improvements in performance. As mentioned above, i would see a MINIMUM of 25hp, whilst for the UNITRONIC Chip, i'm looking at just 15hp increase.
Lastly, i would like to know if you guys/gals recommend me to service my car before chipping, as right now the car says: "service in 2,000km".
Also will there be any problems with increasing the performance figures of the car? Problems such as the DSG gearbox not being to handle such power, or the axle/quattro system being stressed with the added horsepower.
This is my very first car, and also my very first time chipping a car, as such i'm a little concerned about the after effects of chipping.
Many Thanks
SQ.
