Im looking to upgrade my air box to a cone filter K&N or equivalent I don't really know what the benefits or downfalls of this will have on my MPG to start but the main thing is will i have to remap to get the best from the fuel?air mixture change? or are there sensors that automatically adjust this? any other advise to this topic would be great! seen on here that just upgrading to a cotton or foam panel filter will make a difference! anyone with any experience?

Cheers

I'd also be interested in having a larger filter fitted to my car.
However, I'd like it to look as stealthy as possible. I like the way the engine bay looks with everything covered up and tidy (my OCD kicking in) and I'd still like to have a cone filter but stored in the factory box if possible.

I had an Orranje Stealth CAI in my Mini Cooper S that had a modified upper half of the OEM airbox, with a K&N 57i kit mounted inside. Made an awesome noise and was much more free-flowing due to proven tests, but looked completely stock. Not hot air intruding from the bay into the intake, and no stupid looking open cone in the bay (to each their own of course). Exactly as I like it... http://orranje.co.uk/shop-by-car/bmw-mi ... i-cooper-s

Does anyone know of a retailer that makes cones that fit in the standard airbox? Would it be worth it or just invest in a pure-foam filter as not to affect the MAF (like an ITG or Pipercross for example)?

Does anyone have any info on which are the S2000 cone filters alot of people seem to be running? I'm a bit confused with these whether you just buy the filter and can attach or buy an S2000 K&N induction kit.

Seen quite a few sigs on here with S2000 cone filter in the mod list, fair few pics aswell, but couldn't really any clear information on them.

yeah it fits straight onto the MAF, you can also leave the lower part of the air box in and have the cone sitting in it.

s2000 cone is very noisy and becomes irritating after a few weeks, i've just gone back to the wak box.

Zero noticeable power gains with the s2000 cone on standard car i felt, almost felt as though it had less torque and wasn't as smooth to drive

hi buddy,i recently fitted an s2000 and I love it,seems to give a deeper sound and more responsive with a heat shield.
as pugwash says and displayed in his picture with the a3 heat shield.i didn't go for the k&n but cosworth s2000 cone on ebay but I'm sure either will give you a great sound jmo.to buy a spare oem air box will cost you the same as a cone s2000 cone so price is no different unless you want to just cut up your current box.
your car,your choice :D

Yes he now has it on his listing that he will powder coat in a choice of colors for an extra ÂŁ10.

I bought some high temp matt black spray paint today so will probably give it a go on this too.
