Convertible roof won't go down

Hi guys

Hopefully someone can help.

I've got an 08 TTS convertible and have had some roof issues. It started when the roof would open but wouldn't close. I managed to manually close and was getting some error around the flap motor. After some searching on the forums I was going to carry out the flap servo RandR but when I went to open the roof today, the latches undo but the roof won't move back.

Any ideas what to do? No roof light flashing or error code comes up.

Your best bet is a manual open then check the flap servo motors. If you have to park outside, you can manually open the roof to remove the servo motors, then close and latch the top. As long as the hydraulic valve is left open you can continue to open/close the top manually without any risk of damage to the system.

It is possible that the roof can fail without a fault code if the expected range from the flap servos is borderline. Unfortunately this can also cause the roof to stop working properly.

On the positive side, the fact you don't have a fault registered for the servos means you should be able to get them cleaned out, reinstalled and functional without an Adaptation.

If you would be so kind, please see if any of these posts are similar to your issue and re-post with the one that best matches your roof problem. This way we can keep the roof topics in the existing posts rather than creating new ones.

Thanks @Swissjetpilot - apologies I've searched through those posts and there was some mention of disconnecting the arms in the same manner as you do when you close the roof manually, is that correct?

So open the valve, disconnect the arms, manually open the locks, move back slightly, close the locks, manually lower the roof.

Does that sound about right?

The arms I believe you are referring to are the links under the Flaps as shown in the image below.

There are two YouTube videos linked below which will walk you through all the steps to open/close and latch the top. As long as you leave the hydraulic release valve open, you can open & close the top without any risk of damage to the system.

Roadsters have two possible means of accessing the latch motor; bung or panel. Either way, be very sure the tool is properly seated into the motor assembly when latching the top. Pay special attention to how the crank arm tool is used. One end is for pulling the spline out, the other end is for turning and latching the top.

I added this image just to be clear on what we mean by open, closed, down and up. If you have a fault, the automatic operation will no longer work so you won't be able to open or close the top using the console switch until the fault has been resolved. Meaning any top operation will be manual.
