Creaking from the Front when "accelerating"

Guys.

Maybe common. Took my car to Audi to have them check it out they couldn't find anything wrong (though the engineer did manage to reproduce the noise) just said they added some oil! god knows what to!

When i am moving or pulling away, if i lift off (to change gear) the "Passenger" (My drivers) side creaks and i can feel it in the steering.

it doesn't make any noises over speed bumps. I've bounced the car from the front to see if it would make any noises but i get nothing so i think its a torsional stress that makes the noise. Anyone have any hints at what it might be?

I've asked them to book me in to look again; at Bushes, Suspension top mount, steering rack mounts, check wear of the drive shaft/ Hub (its more apparent when slight steering lock in either direction).

There are also some cobbled roads about and its a little worse after driving over one of those... :?

My Warranty runs out in June so i want it all fixed before then! :p

Perhaps some suspension bushes in the lower suspension arms?

Or would this be a subframe bolt issue?

More and more TTs are starting to suffer from noises coming from the front suspension it seems. And it's unexplained for. Other VAG products like the Golf and Passat suffer from loose subframe bolts. Perhaps the TT is affected too.

It could also be the lower engine mount.

hmm ok.

car has done 24,000 miles so not a high miler for her age (nearly 3) i'm not bothered so long as its fixed before the warranty. the cost of the "diagnostic" is free at moment...

I had the same thing occur to my RS. Turned out be an engine mount making all the noise. It appeared to be miss aligned from the factory therefore putting to much stress on the rubber bushing. Mine is a left hand drive car and it was coming from the drivers side... I guess technical that would be the trammison mount then.

My TT RS also has this creaking at the front left. It is worst at lift-off or lift-on at low speeds in first and second, and also worsens with the cold.

I thought it was the bottom-center engine mounting, which just today I fitted with a special poly-bush insert. There's no improvement in the creaking, so I am now guessing it is the front-right (gearbox) mounting that is causing the issue.

There are uprated ones available, but it might be worth asking your dealer to check this as the possible cause when it goes back in.

Appears this is fairly common! Getting this too and suspected bushes also. Will take note of the suggestions here but like everyone the creaking seems to be coming from the nearside.

I finally tracked this creaking down today!

I orginally suspected the dog-bone engine mount (underneath the engine). I upgraded this mount with a special uprated bushing, but the creaking was still there.

I read further up this forum that somebody had had this fixed and the issue turned out to be an "engine mount which was misaligned from the factory".

Since the creak always comes from the n/s front, I looked at the gearbox mounting. It's a big aluminium/rubber assembly underneath the air cleaner, which you need to take off first.

Taking off the air cleaner is just a couple of bolts and a few screws. Once this is done, you will see the large n/s engine/gearbox mounting. There are three bolts onto the gearbox. These are adjustable since they are in slotted holes! There are four bolts into the inner wing. These are not adjustable so don't bother undoing these.

All I did was loosen the three bolts slightly from the mounting to the gearbox, then use a prybar to re-align the mounting, making sure it is pushed into the inner wing as much as necessary, and also central in the housing. I finished the job off with a liberal blast of WD-40 into the rubber internals of the mounting.

I re-assembled, and took for a drive. The creak was completely gone!

Guys I found out what my creaking was now too and its not one of the above.......

Took it up to a local garage and put it up on a ramp, checking chassis screws, bushes etc. Then went under the bonnet and leaned on the airbox - CREAK!

Seems that one of the two bolts (the one nearest the nearside wheel) had come loose due to the blot retainer weld letting go - so the bolt had progressively become looser over time.

One new screw and a pair of trusty mole grips = no more creaking!

So one easy one to try if you have creaking from the nearside front - check the airbox!
