so i bought a very clean but high mileage tt mk2 last year as a gap filler/run about while my new car was on order with the plan to sell it as soon as the new one turned up, thing is i absolutely love it and tend to take it before any other of the cars, so my question is what kind of mileage can i expect from it? Its done about 135000 , its the 2.0 tfsi, a friend of mine has a golf gti mk5 (same engine I believe) thats done 165000 without any major work, whats the highest mileage seen on one of these ?

There's someone with a TDI has about 360k km or 225k miles on theirs:

If the car is well maintained and taken care of, the sky is the limit. The engine can last hundreds of thousands of miles if you take care of it and be sure to do things like NOT follow the long OCIs as recommended by VAG and change the oil every 5k miles or less. Also if this is an EA888 engine ("TFSI" doesn't say anything about what engine it is), you will need to be sure the timing chain is done at appropriate times because this is not spelled out in the maint. schedule. I.e. There's lots of things you need to do, over and above what is spelled out in the maintenance schedule, if you want the car to last 200k+ miles. Not only more frequent oil changes but also the stupid "lifetime" fluids need to be changed out (like coolant and diff fluids), intake cleanings to be done, and more.

Personally my TT is nearly on 150k miles and though it will probably take me quite some years to get there (esp. if I add a third vehicle within the next year as I plan to), 200k miles is "just another stepping stone" in my book, not any kind of limit or "high mileage" or whatever. In all honesty with the state of the roads over here and the insane population density, congestion, idiots on the road, etc. it's almost certain this car will be written off in an accident before it "wears out due to mileage". I mean I hate to jinx it like that and I absolutely do not want that to ever happen, but it's the sad reality of driving over here these days.
