Just noticed kerbing on one of my alloys

I just found something disappointing on my car, I was giving it its first wash and noticed the rear drivers side alloy is kerbed, which I definitely didn't do. I'm 100% sure I didn't do it, since it hasn't even been near any kerbs yet, and I definitely would have noticed if I had, since I haven't been using the stereo, so it would have made an obvious scraping sound.

Its also right next to a tyre "hair", (you know the small rubber hairs that are on new wheels), and the tyre looks like new around it, so it looks like the wheel was kerbed with different tyres on, which is weird.

Its a lease car so I don't know what I can do about it, just wondering if anyone here has any advice? I want a new alloy really since its only a week or so old and it just sucks to have it kerbed when its meant to be new!

Pics below, they looked a lot worse before I cleaned the wheels with all the black grime in them :/

Something could have shot up from the road or a small lump/bump.
its just one of those things...

Nightmare to repair too. needs to be refinished ÂŁ120/wheel.

Gutted....

Don't suppose Audi included the tyre/alloy insurance in the PCP deal....??

I've never had that happen before, my last car I owned for 4 years had just one kerb mark on the front wheels and I know exactly when and where it happened. Also if these happened from going down a pothole then there should be some kind of obvious marks on the tyre (because the protection part sits proud). So I think theres such small odds its happened in the last week compared to someone just kerbed it before it was delivered.

Ring the dealer, tell them its your first wash and noticed it, they can only say no, ask for a repair rather than new wheel. They have lots of outside agencies on tap for after sales care, I for one recon they'll sort it for you.
Will try that :) Guess it'll sound a lot less demanding than asking for a new wheel. They actually owe me ÂŁ100 anyway since the car didn't come with the colour coordinated leather I ordered :/

The thing is the car was delivered to my house very early in the morning and I did look over the car but there was so much to look at, and I think I just didn't expect there to be any kerbing. Lesson learnt on that one now though! :/

From jogging along roads, Ive noticed lots of random rubbish that I would never have noticed on the motorbike or car. I notice a bit of broken car suspension springs about once a fortnight (and not the same bit, running different routes all the time) sitting on the edges of roads. It seems to be one of those things that once you start looking out for them, you notice them more (especially when my suspension broke a few years ago & the guy that sorted it said it was becoming very common, what with potholes, speed bumps & gritters putting out salt in winter time at any opportunity). Its the sort of thing while travelling in a car you'd have no hope of noticing.

You couldve just been unlucky and clipped some random debris from the road while driving along, wouldve just been a split seconds worth - enough to score an edge of an alloy. A bit of curved suspension spring is just the perfect width to come up and score an alloy if you drive over the edge of it.

It just seems so unlucky that I've done thousands of miles in my old car and it never happens, and done barely 100 miles in the new one and it happens, on exactly the same roads :/

And its not just the nick in the top photo, in the 2nd photo it shows a longer mark about 2 inches long, so it really looks like kerbing. But I guess you could be right.

Ah well. If its ÂŁ120 to get it fixed I might just claim it on that ÂŁ100 they owe me, think they were going to give me credit anyway and the only thing I can think of getting is the floor mats and storage box for the boot, practically would have been throwing it down the drain anyway  I'll just get a ÂŁ5 storage box and wait for the TTS mats if they're ever made.

on diamond cut rims you'd have nothing left after 2 repairs!!!!

They probably owe you more than ÂŁ100 mate, as a) you could have refused the car as they didn't deliver the car you ordered and b) if the extended co-ordinated leather was part of the PCP deal then you'll be paying interest on it for the term of the deal.

Me thinks they should sort the wheel out FOC.

Just shows it is always worth checking a new car thoroughly on collection, probably more so than a used one. As Tosh will tell you damage in transit is not that uncommon.

BTW I kerbed mine after two days and Beckenham Audi fixed it for free, but they did owe me at the time! Haven't had a mark in the 8 months since..............although I do normally need to hail a cab to get to the pavement

The repair is invisible.

True, I could have kicked up a right fuss about that! They got the seats wrong as well, was meant to be half alcantara, but luckily I like the leather ones a lot. At least they god the colour right

The problem I had with checking it on delivery is, the marks are in a sort of recess and quite small, and if they're at the bottom of the wheel its really hard to see them as they're covered by the shadow, but yeah I'll never make that mistake again.

Anyhow, I emailed them, will see what they say. I didn't ask for a new wheel, just asked what they could do about it. Good to hear the repair works well, I'll take it if they offer that. I think they owe me a little bit as well though, I mean they won't pay ÂŁ120 to get it fixed at cost, its not really asking much even if it had happened when I was driving it, seeing as they got 2/3 options wrong on the car :/ (and of course it can't happen again now I've checked all the other wheels and confirmed that they're fine)

The damage is really weird though, when you see how much protection the wheel has and where the mark is, but yeah I guess it could have happened in some strange way that I didn't notice. Its just hard to accept (or believe) that ;)

Only ÂŁ180 from MK Audi for the alloy wheel insurance. ÂŁ499 for the paint and upholstery protection and ÂŁ399 for the smart repairs.
I could see if they'll sign me up for that and just count this as one of the repairs (voiding the ÂŁ100 they owe me).
I think within the first month you can still sign up for it! Even if there is damage. Worth asking about. I'm not 100% sure but I think I overheard someone tell someone else that lol.
