Even after changing the battery in it today. Red LED lights up better to show it is now powered properly but still won't open or lock the car. Changed it easily within the 10 mins timeline. So does that mean there is another issue here and if so what or is it a case of having to get it re-programmed again?

Any idea why it should suddenly not work at all?

My 2nd key fob, which I've never used is working fine Thanfully.

Try putting it in the ignition, turn to position one and press the fob to learn it back to the car
Then remove key, close door and try fob

If not you'll need vcds to remove one of the old fobs from the memory
I think it only allows 4 in memory at a time

Thanks Hoggy just seen something similar to that on youtube (bothered to search there now I know we can do this), will try that method first as it makes more sense as you need the working key to turn the ignition on or to unlock the car in the first place. Not liking the idea of putting a duff key into the actual ignition tbh.

Putting the duff key in the ignition allows the immobiliser eprom to sync so the car recognises it

Just FYI sorted it, the way I did was what I saw mostly on youtube vids (mostly A3s):

1 put working key in ignition and turn to pos 1

2 open drivers door and insert non working key into lock and turn to lock car and press a button on the key

3 release buton turn back to unlock car and remove key from lock

and er.....
that's it and it worked for me. :)
