Slightly off topic, but im hoping you guys can help

A collegue at work has a 52 plate A4. Whilst visiting Pitsea he returned to his car to find that kids has thrown varnish over the rear wing. He has apparently been trying all weekend to remove it to no avail. Is there any product anyone can recommend to try to remove this stuff?

Your help is appreciated as always

Cheers

Chris

These may work.
"big industrial wipes". They are like a baby wipe (similar dispenser) but are used to clean paint, adhesive, oil, mastic, grease from hands, tools and surfaces.
We get our from Dulux Decorators Centres who are a nationwide stockist. See yellow pages under "Decorators Merchants".
Try a small area first.
Hope it works.

Would advise him to ask a local bodyshop or maybe Mr Mark Wax Wizard could help?

If you have A LOT of wax on your car, you may be able to just pressure wash it off. This is one of the few times you would usea pressure lance cloder than 18" to body work.

Acrylic or polyurethane based varnish?

Acrylic will be harder to remove (if it has gone off) since it reponds less well to softening techniques. For this reason emuslion paint is far harder to remove once hardened, than gloss. Acrylic varnish will need cutting out - you might be able to do this your self if it is a small localised area, otherwise go to your loacl body shop.

It's probably oil based varnish (most are) in which case:

1. Apply vaseline to area immediatley around varnish

2. Soak a rag in either Autoglym tar and glue remover or liquid lighter fuel, or either mixed with white spirit.

3. Cover area with the rag and cover that in an old towel to prevent drying out.

4. Leave overnight.

5. Test to see if it has softened.

6. rub gently - it should lift - wit ha clean rag soaked with solvent.

7. Re wax.
