Mk2 TTRS or Mk2 TTS

Im in the process of acquiring a Mk1 V6 TT but the deal has run into problems as the DSG has packed up before I even got my hands on it - its a within family purchase.

I been researching TTs and quite fancy a TTRS but wonder what the cons vs pros are compared with the Mk2 TTS - tax & fuel economy are not the issue for me its more what they are like to drive on UK roads and generally living with the vehicles ie reliability.

Quick question - if given the choice would you go for a 3 yr mk2 TTRS or a newer TTS ( both about £25K) ?

Any info gratefully received.

Hi mate

Just my thoughts
Different engine in the rs and that what the rs is all about.
So for me rs every day,
the tts is a great car but if you have the money the rs every day :)

Phil :)

If I had £25k to spend then I would go RS, however on the road if you arnt bothered about the exclusivity as much I would spend £15k-18k and get a mint TTS stage 2+ and bank the rest, but maybe thats being a little too sensible haha. :)

Been wondering about this myself, despite having a TTS how could anyone not fancy upgrading to a RS. From what I have read the RS gives the same or better mpg, the servicing costs don't appear that much dearer, the only real expense I can see on the RS is the cost of brakes seems quite a bit more. Maybe some RS owner's can chip in with how the running cost's compare as quite a few of the RS owners seem to have upgraded from a TTS.

Don't get me wrong the TTS is a great car and probably best bang for buck in the TT range but if you have got the cash then surely the RS is the way to go.

I have a TTS, which was the right choice for me, stage 1 at the minute, more power next year :)

Driven the mk3 TTS and it's a nice car but just does not make me smile. Have been around the track in a few TTRS's and that would be the car for me if I had the £25-30k to spend

Its a no brainer RS!

I test drove an RS before getting my TTS... The TTS is a let down in comparison.

The only reason i didnt get an RS over my car (as cost different was under £1k) was due to the restrictions in my company car allowance... The TTS is classed as a 2.0 with under 200mg CO2!

Just changed from TTS to TTRS myself, so only a couple of days.
Regarding running costs, it's cost me £40 for the year more in insurance, which I don't think is bad. The tax, again minimal difference. Fuel? Well in the couple of days I've had it, doesn't seam any different to my TTS, but I haven't driven it hard which would probably see it.

The TTS is a great car, I loved the one I had. Prior to the TTS I had a 3.2 & the only fault I had with TTS was the sound, I used to love to simply turn the key to hear it.

The RS brings that sound back & more with the performance to match.

Just one more thing, I traded my TTS in & it was a beautiful car with no mods at all. The only thing done was Cruise fitted at Audi Bolton which is exactly as if it was on from new.

Don't know what dealer would want for it.

Give me a shout if you need any details etc.

Well I'm going to say RS everytime...but go drive both and see what fits your requirements best. One thing I will say is you will probably wish you'd bought a RS at some point fi you went for the S.

Agree with pretty much everyone above. If you can afford the RS buy it, it's the top model why settle for anything else if you can afford it?

I doubt there are many TTRS who wish they had bought a TTS but quite a few the other way around, it is an epic car and if you can afford one go for it mate.

Ive had the same car line up as Carl and can only say the RS is the top without a doubt but ensure you hunt for the extra toys you want (electric seats or bucket seats, rns-e, bluetooth, mag ride, sports exhaust, black pack, hill assist, electric folding dimming mirrors etc etc) this of course will add to the purchase price, the TTS is a great car and is great value as you get a lot of toys as standard but i don't regret the swap ;-)

I had a 2012 TTS which was stage 2+ and stupidly fast and I had loads of fun in it. I traded it in for a 2014 TTRS plus last January. Once I had driven one, I was smitten, just had to have one.
No regrets at all. The power delivery on the RS is just so smooth and relentless and that noise :p :p
Dont get me wrong, the TTS is a superb car but the RS is in a different league

Love my TTS to pieces! But if I could afford an RS I would have one in a heart beat. This was cemented after AITP earlier this year. I'd only owned my car for a month but the RS extras make them look awesome and as I left the event I gave the throttle a good stab down the dual carriage way and a black RS just left me for dead

Love my RS, the sound of the 5 pot with the secondary decat delete and valves left open gets me everytime.

Reply to s robinson. Did the RS have the fixed spoiler deleted??
As that may have been me, as there was a silver TTS in front of me as I left AITP. ☺

Can't fully remember but I have a feeling I was the only silver TTS there. So there's a good chance it was you. Had the missus in the car limiting me to how much fun I could have  if it was you, think I also turned up around the same time as you, passed me on the same road giving an RS4 a bit of a run I think, but you weren't on the TTOC stand? Sounded and looked nice 8)
