Portable Air Conditioning

Sure the collective knowledge will know something about it. I want a portable unit that, in order of importance :

- works
- preferably not too noisy
- is remote control
- has a timer
- is not too heavy to carry upstairs
- doesn't look like a piece of medial equipment

There doesn't seem to be much on the net in the way of reviews, except Which? and I'm too tight to pay for that :D
TIA

I searched for for air conditioning thats why I didn't find that

However, there's no real recommendations in there, and things have moved on a bit I would think in the last 2 years. Basicaly would like some exprience from anyone that has got one. BAMTT What did you end up buying? We want it for the sam reason as Kell. Our little girl is trying to sleep in 27+ degree heat and its not even that hot at the moment. What did you end up gettting Kell?

One thing you definitely need is the ability to get the hot air from the back of the unit to outside. The only way to do this is through a vent of some sorts, trying to open the window and put a hose out defeats the object, as it lets warm air back in.

I have a portable unit and I put the hose out of the catflap (perfect fit) and it keeps the living room cool (the moggies get pissed off though!), but if I didn't use the catflap to get rid off the hot air then it would be a waste of time.

Got an "Airforce" unit from B&Q last year, I think it's great, well worth the money, though admittedly it's a bit noisy (but doesn't bother me in the slightest, nothing stops me from getting my zzzz's).

I was sceptical before I used it, but it is icy cold in the room when it's on.

Just don't think of the unit as being "portable". Yes, you can wheel it round on the same floor, but it is not something you can have in the bedroom one minute and the conservatory the next, as they are VERY heavy.
