Posted these figures in the Autocar thread - probably get missed by most so here it is..

Stealer said they were told by Audi on the track day trip/TT launch that Audi had tweaked the torque curve via the ECU on the TT 2.0T FSI to make it feel much stronger than the same engine in the A3 /GTi..

Golf GTI DSG 197BHP kerb weight = 1,328kg (150BHP per Ton)
TT 2.0T FSI DSG 197BHP kerb weight = 1,280kg (156BHP per Ton)
TT 3.2 V6 DSG 250BHP kerb weight = 1,430kg (177BHP per Ton)

The 'edition 30' Golf GTi might be a closer match to the 3.2 V6 TT with its claimed 230BHp 2.0T FSI at 175BHP per Ton - having said which the engine in the TT is rumoured to produce 220 - 230 BHP so who knows...

If it does produce the claimed 220-230bhp then it would be:

TT 2.0T FSI DSG @ 220BHP kerb weight = 1,280kg (174BHP per Ton)
TT 2.0T FSI DSG @ 230BHP kerb weight = 1,280kg (182BHP per Ton)

And the last one - a Revo/AMD/APR tweaked 2.0T FSI

TT 2.0T FSI DSG 250BHP kerb weight = 1,280kg (198BHP per Ton)

Ties in with what Tosh was saying about the 2.0T power output..

I'm no expert on this so forgive me if this sounds stupid..... but I don't understand why a manufacturer would add more power to an engine and not publicise this? Can someone explain?

I'd gladly except an extra 20-30bhp from the 2.0T I've ordered, but I'd also like to know if I've officially got it or not :?

You and me both.

Don't know where I got this from, it was a few years ago and I don't know if its true (sounds reasonable though). I read somewhere that German company TAX is based on co2 emisions and BHP. Hence cars are taken to TUV for testing when new and still tight, hence low BHP figures. As the engine loosens up it produces more BHP, but for TAX purposes BHP is lower. Hence my PD 130 golf is stated as producing on av 145BHP. Same goes for the PD 150, which pushes out around 163.

If the above and the other threads re the 2.0T are correct then the TT has infact 20bhp extra. The the 2.0T has really the same bhp/ton and more torque/ton than the 3.2. This maybe explains why most reviews cant find a difference in performance. (Not a dig at the 3.2)

Why would we think it a dig?

I sat down and did the costing on the train yesterday and the difference in price between the two (if you level the spec) is only £3000. So its still comes back to what you want. I think you will find most of the V6 people either got the bigger car for the V engine, or the quattro 4WD not really the bhp/my cars faster than yours.

Yup - I would agree here. The biggest question I have been asked since I ordered is 'why didnt you wait for / order a QUATTRO.

Ok the V6 sounds nice but the big difference is Haldex imo - thats probably worth about 2k on its own.

Twin pipes £500 and you're about level :p

Still don't really understand why they don't publise the extra power?

Maybe I'll stop trying to understand and just enjoy it IF or should I say WHEN it arrives in March? :p

bang it on the rollers when you get it.
