Theft Alarm Random Flashing

After purchasing a used 2010 Audi TT Quattro I noticed a strange thing happening to my car. Every 3 hours the theft alarm lights go off and flash for the appropriate amount of time for the theft alarm. I have the horn turned off on the control panel, but the lights flash. If I leave the car unlocked, it doesn't happen. Does it during daylight hours also. Ideas?

Very common, it's [probably] exhausted batteries in the alarm module and/or corrosion of the board...

See these two threads:

Since VAG has used the exact same modules over virtually all models since ~2005 or so, it means there are tons of them available on the used market. So buying a cheap newer one that came from a more recent vehicle, is the easiest fix in most cases. One can remove it and try to source/service the tiny internal batteries as in that first link, but for most just getting a new one (again meaning a lesser used one on eBay, wreckers, etc.) is typically the quickest fix. Though quick is also relative since you have to remove the fender to get to it in the TT.
