To Bose or not to Bose ?

Any views on the value of the Bose system in the TT?

I considered it for my A6, but decided that the sound quality difference didn't justify the price - but then the A6 has a handy sub-woofer in the boot as standard, and that gives a lot of "depth" to the sound.

So, for my soon-to-order TT2, should I go for Bose or not? Having a Bose system at home, and the iPod soundock, I *am* a Bose fan ......

Views / thoughts??

I had a BOSE in my old TT and it was great. I think the real experts will tell you for pure sound quality etc etc that you should install a different after-market system, but, if you would just prefer to get a good system without all the hassle of installing it then the BOSE is a good option IMHO.

I thought I read somewhere that the TT heralds a new audio system for Audi to be phased in across the rest of the range. A 9 speaker 140w five channel speaker system I'm sure won't sound too shabby. The Bose option admittedly adds another 115w and 3 more channels and an 'audio pilot noise compensation' no less :D

That's a pretty strong set of pro-Bose opinions. Thanks for the comments. I'd pretty much decided to add Bose to the options list ... just wanted to see if anyone had any negative comments.

btw Dotti ... what's your favourite colour??

Also helps when it comes to resale time. With the current TT, the first quest most dealers ask is "Does it have BOSE and a CD-Changer".

It won't add any value but will make it hell of a lot easier to get rid of....should you ever want to ;-)

Im not sure what difference it makes without hearing them both. The Std one looks good from the specs. However I've ordered bose.

I'm in the process of speccing my car and looking for some guidence on this very subject.

I'm potentially looking to upgrade the head unit in the future to a DVD Sat Nav jobbie (can't wait till Jan!)

Will I still get the benefits of having BOSE (amp & speakers) if I go down this route? Or am I going to cause myself a headache?

So I think my question is will another head unit be compatible with (& take advantage of) the BOSE setup?

Talking of Headaches - Speccing this car is a total nightmare! I still haven't got past the colour!

Hi Jak

Bit of a long-winded answer to your question ...

I'm a little wary of manufacturer-installed satnav options.

Why? Because;
- They're expensive
- You're stuck with them (can you add TomTom like POI's, how often are maps upgraded, do they link to real-time traffic info, etc, etc)
- They can compromise your audio functionality.

Check what the TT options list says re the satnav options - ie you effectively MUST also go for the CD changer (or iPod - in November!), because the single CD slot is used for the satnav maps.

Re BOSE specifically. I am a confirmed BOSE fan - with 3 separate speaker sets in the house, and the iPod sounddock. I didn't spec BOSE with my A6, because I couldn't hear enough difference in the sound to justify the option cost. However the A6 has a hefty sub woofer in the boot, which adds a lot to the standard sound set-up. The TT2 doesn't have that boot speaker, and the option cost is a lot more reasonable. So I've specced it for my car.

However ... when I had my after-market phone & satnav system fitted (in the A6), the guy expressed relief that the car didn't have BOSE because BOSE made it more difficult to fit the kit - presumably because of the extra amp or different connections, wiring, etc.

What am *I* doing this time ... going for BOSE, and third party bluetooth phone & satnav system, and hoping that the fitter doesn't throw a fit when he's fitting it all.

Hope this helps ...

ive had all sorts of sound systems in my old cars...... bass bins - component speakers - equalisers - the lot....

Im afraid for the neatness - the non nickability and the fantastic sounds i get from my TT the BOSE is the only way to go.

I dont think the hassle is worth it changing for aftermarket...

So it sounds like it'll be OK for me to go that way, just a problem for the poor bugger who has to fit it.

Back to the colour decision for me now :?

Don't make your colour choice just based on the representation of the colours that are in the brochure, or the on-line configurator. Those representations are abysmal.

Get to your dealer and look through his swatch-pack. And make sure that you look at the colours in all angles in daylight too. Some colours (like Deep Sea Blue - see my sig) look completely different when they have light on them. At least, I hope they do ...

Enjoy your choosing

I would definately get BOSE

It will add that extra little bit of class, its also one of the first thing people look for in buying a second hand one/trading

I'll second that.....I haven't heard one without BOSE, but It's definitely on my must haves list for when I purchase my TT. So if it ain't got it, I ain't buying it !
