Hi Yshah80,
I moved here to OH from Arlington 13 years ago to be around while our 3 grandsons grew up.
Pls send along some pix of the Healey. That's the one I always wanted. The 6er in the light body and a four speed. We raced a '54 4 banger, out of Carbondale, nationally with SCCA in the mid '60's.
I went to Warshawski's in Chicago, was escorted to an upper story of the warehouse, where in the corner was a pile, a mean maybe 25 or 30 four speeds, all with the shift lever on the left side. "Take your pick," I was told. I was dumbfounded and mated the best lookin' one to our Massy Ferguson Canada (short block) engine. Full race Crower cam, LeMans head and exhaust manifold delivered from England. Straight pipes cut where the grease pencil melted.
Our first driver's school was in Aspen, their inaugural weekend. We stopped in Denver and were loaned high altitude needles for the 1 3/4" SU's. Returned them Sunday inte.
Thank you for bringing back so many memories.
I took responsibility for my TT because it's the closest I could come to how I felt in my Healey.
I did what you're dong now, a ground up restoration (while a kid in school). Gymkhanas were big then and just led to road racing.
There weren't many of us. My national license was #109.
We bought Good Year throwaways from Hap Sharp and Jim Hall of Chaparral and mounted them on welded together Chevy hubs (same bolt pattern as the 5 bolt rear axles) and Caddy rims (for the width). 60 spoke wire on Pirellis for rain.
Again, thank you for priming me for memory lane.
Have the best day.
Sherman
