And I guess Gala level 1 means a little louder if noise and Gala level 5 means a lot louder when there is noise.
Is there some kind of microphone that detects the noise (and where is it?) or is it just speed sensitive?

I drive the A4 8P or 8K 2.0Tfsi S-Line and it has also the Gala settings. If i set it on level 1 it's louder then gala level 5. I have changed the speaker with the Audi RS6 twin turbo bose ones and it's loud. So what i suggest leave Gala on off, that is so that you can adjust manually from the radio it self or on the stearing wheel.

 

If you have AudioPilot (with Bose) there's a microphone, and GALA can be set to "Auto". Without AudioPilot, I think it's just speed sensitive.

 

I wish it combined speed sensitivity with engine speed. Driving at 30 in 2nd is noisier than 40 in 6th.

 

I believe with Autopilot the Gala menu is either not there or ignored. There was a tech bulletin on how to disable Autopilot if you didn't want it (as you can't do it from menu...)

GALA is a bit like a sledge hammer, its speed sensitive not noise sensitive.
Autopilot measures the background noise and attempts to compensate for it.

AP is on BOSE systems only.
GALA none BOSE.

Is that another way in which the the BOSE is no different than the standard system :wink:

Stupid question, but as Toshiba implies.. do you have Bose? The tech bulletin was specifically issued because there was no menu control and people wanted to turn Autopilot off..

Same here on Bose. I have it set to auto but I notice no more effect than on my last Non-Bose car with Gala turned on. Not sure it does that much to be honest.

 

The GALA function matches the volume to the speed to compensate for road and wind noise.

If you set level 1, the volume is increased less as speed increases.

If you set level 5, the volume is increased more as speed increases.
