Currently going through all the paperwork I have for my car and making a digital folder with copies of everything and I know that much of its early history was done at Audi dealers in the Hampshire area. So does anyone have any experience of getting hard/digital copies of this data from a local dealer? Can it be done online or does it have to be in person and can it be done regardless of where the work was carried out? is there likely to be a fee?

im not sure but i believe the digital service history can be accessed and added to by authorised indies, large dealerships are probably going to be reluctant to give you digital copies quoting things like 'the data protection act' although no reason not to give you a 'print out' which you could then digitise. I dont think the digital record is like the detailed invoice you get when you pay.

Yeah thats an interesting point about gdpr, I do have some invoices which have the customer details on already from previous work carried out at indies and most of the invoices I have show my details. Given how important service history is to a used car I wonder if this has ever been a problem.

I’m guessing the digital records they hold are just dates and work done, without pricing or customer details. Might go and have a chat with my local dealer, depends how friendly the service guy is.

I dunno about over there, but definitely doable over here. Dealers can print (or provide electronic) versions of this without the previous owner(s) information shown--they basically just have to "click something" to omit it.

Some dealers may charge some nominal fee for this, nominal being relative to dealer prices of course. Over here, locally, I "know a guy" (from online/forum circles) who is able to do this for me without charging anything--super nice guy 😁

He was able to get me that info when I bought my TT in 2020, and again just recently for the SQ5 I bought. The earlier time he provided the actual copies of exactly what the customer would have gotten minus the personal info. Easy to print/look over. This time it's more of a split list (instead of invoices) that kind of has to be "aligned" with the dates in the top part--that part giving the dates of the service visits and the bottom part giving another list what was actually done. Plus there's a third list not shown that tells of whatever DTCs were involved if any and the repair codes like warranty, or what have you. A little more work to figure out everything but it's all there.

Here's an example of what I got for the SQ5:

Anyway yeah nowhere on any of the stuff is anyone's personal info--anywhere it would appear it's blanked out or there simply isn't even a place for it, just the vehicle details. Of course being the sleuth I am, I figured out who the original owner was via other means (mainly the government info and social media searches, lol), and was able to speak to them before buying the car.
