New front brembo discs, Mintex 1144 fast road/track brake pads
Had fitted the replacement 032 motorsport engine mounts
Fresh oil and filter
and a clean MOT

Got three events left for the season for sprint and hillclimb. A nonn-competitive day at Shelsley this Friday, Curborough on Sunday which is always good fun, and Prescott in early november for their Rallye Prescott event.

After that its a serious look at upgrades for next season to make me more competitive in class against the GR Yaris's and the Golf R's

They're good discs those, I put a set of them on mine 3yrs and around 30K miles ago, still plenty left on 'em.

Bought gloss black rattle cans and VHT clear coat for the mini-project of turning the spare grille off the facelift front bumper I recently bought into a complete “blacked out” front grille - the “four rings” was originally chrome, but with the call for blacked out styling these days I thought it’d be better off reworked. I removed the rings, keyed back the original surface, few coats of paint followed by clear. Actually it worked out very nicely and after flatting back the clear coat by hand with some P8000 3M sanding discs and a polish up with some Menzerna Super Fine 3500 polish, it looks pretty damn good 👌.

As I’d already bought a TTS grille separately to match my rear bumper diffuser in grey, this is not needed, and so this spare grille is now up for sale both here on the marketplace and on eBay if anyone is interested 😉 - there’s load more pics on the eBay listing BTW.

I finally got around to rewiring the reversing camera that I installed back in about May.
First attempt I took power from the reversing lights and had the common problem that it was intermittent (to say the least - it only occasionally kicked into life). I was going to use the relay trick instead, and even bought one, but then I decided to take a different tack.
So, my camera is actually fed from the 12V supply from my Xtrons head unit, used primarily to feed their Bose pre-amp unit. This is not a typical approach I know, but I have a good reason for going this way.
First, I should point out two important points aobut my unit:
1. It is a full-blown android 14 device, which can run its own apps (and even its own 4G/5G).
2. Importantly is also CANBUS connected, which means it doesn't require the typical reversing signal wire as it already knows when you select reverse , and I could use that strand to send the power the other way without having to open everything up to run another wire.
So this wiring approach means my camera is powered whenever the head end is on and I can look at the picture at any time, not just when reversing. And that should allow me to use it as a reverse dashcam, as soon as I get around to downloading a suitable app.
(I've also picked up a nice 1080p forward cam to add it too, and that works nicely, but I need to figure out a nice wiring route from the head end to the front grille to install it. Looks like that might be a little fiddly and require me to pull all the grille structure off first, but so be it.

You're absolutely right! I may consider moving it down so the badge is mid-rings. I was so concerned about getting it level, that I guess I overlooked that when installing it :)

EDIT: And yes, the grill came with an RS badge (which I kept but did not install).
Maybe it's just the close-up lens distortion, but this looks a bit larger than the originals. What size is it?
I've been thinking of adding one of these myself, since my TTS came with a (fake?) RS honeycomb grille and I can't seem to find an original TTS black edition grille anywhere at a remotely sensible price. Putting a logo back on seems like the sensible fallback option.
Where did you get it?

Thanks

Kevin

Exactly how my Kenwood is wired, permanent power to the camera and I can select it from the head unit. I also have a front camera wired in and ready to go, just can’t decide where to mount it.

My front camera is round and fits neatly in a single hole in the honeycomb grille, so I intend to mount it in the hole immediately below the rings (I think, I seem to recall there are no true gaps above). When I can be bothered to take the whole grille and surrounding assembly off so that I can actually get to it :-(

I should also point out that the Xtrons still automatically selects the camera when you put it into reverse. That's the nice thing about the CANBUS (or one of the nice things I should say). Does the Kenwood also do that?

Yeah, auto detects reverse, switches to the camera and it also mutes the audio which is kind of annoying if you are on phone call, but I am unfortunately of an age where I do see the benefit lol! There is a a cam button which lets me switch to the live camera at any time, then an on screen touch to switch between front and rear feeds. What it doesn’t do is record unless you add Kenwoods own vastly overpriced and under specced dashcam, but I already have front and rear 4k dashcams which are much better and pretty much take care of themselves.
