Hi, I have a 2008 Audi TT 8j and trying to replace the standard radio. The replacement came with a standard quadlock connector and canbus adapter, however the Audi is missing the quadlock connector. I can work out power and speaker wires but where are the ignition wires, amp turn on wire, canbus wires, ect, does anybody have a wiring diagram for these connectors

You can find wiring diagrams along with a number of Workshop Manuals in the Knowledge Base. Workshop Manual Communications - RG 91 - D3E8006B7D9 (2009) provides the quad-lock wiring diagrams and pin-out.

About 9 years ago I contributed to a thread which sorted out fitting a Quadlock connector to a Japanese market Mk2 that didn't leave the factory with one. We sorted out all the wiring so that the owner successfully fitted a Quadlock and installed an after market HU. I can't remember what the thread title was, but if you search around you should find it.

Hi, Idk How this website works. I’m not very experienced with car stuff. I’m learning as I’m going. I recently bought an imported audi tt mk2, and I saw the thread link that you provided below. I have the same looking harnesses, Same clarion whatever the three boxes are (amps I suppose) I’m trying to install a aftermarket head unit from aliexpress and I need the factory quadlock to be able to connect it. I would understand you’d be busy in your life but If you could help and guide me, It’d be appreciated very very much knowing that you’ve dealt with the same exact thing

Hi all, at a loss, all ex clarion wiring removed and left with these 2 plugs,I have searched for the pin layout of these on the links supplied but only find ones with the quadlock connector. Does anybody have this wiring pin layout for these 2 x 12 pin connectors

I believe the car does have the factory amp in the boot area will confirm, just trying to figure out what wire turns that amp on. I have an aftermarket android HU, just trying to wire that onto the car, i can see B+ and negative wire, but cant identify any other, you are also correct regarding the car did not come with a standard quadlock as it is a JP car with a clarion HU

This Audi document which was linked to in the earlier thread gives some connection details for the multi pin plugs associated with the dealer fitted Japan market Clarion HUs. Have a look from page 109 to 123. I don't know whether you have a JP4 or JP5 HU.

Your pictures show a lot of additional wires. These could be the loudspeaker connections (if you don't have an amp in the boot) or connections to additional infotainment units. Do you have an amp in the boot? Do you have any additional infotainment units in the glovebox?

Thank you for this, amazing help, think that is the one, this connector looks correct, have found most of the cables now. No additional infotainment units in the glove box, just the amp in the rear boot, still no idea where the canbus connector is, don't see that in the car. The other connector looks to be for the TV Clarion Box

I'm glad that you are making progress and I'm pleased that I have been able to help.

In Euro/UK market cars, the CANbus twisted pair wires are orange/brown and orange/purple. Japan market cars may use different colours. What is the twisted pair shown on the right of the picture in your first post?

Hi, Yeah once again thank you for all your help, so much appreciated, I am sure I will be able to make more progress. Regarding the Canbus,I found these cables lying in the back and think that ties up to what you said above, (orange/brown and orange/purple), does this look right to you , also just added a picture. How do I know which is High and which is low on the canbus.....Besides that just need the illumination wire, can't locate that and the ignition switched 12+ but getting there

Orange/Brown is CAN Low, and Orange/Purple is CAN High. The two wires should be quite tightly twisted together.

Besides that just need the illumination wire, can't locate that
There isn't an 'illumination wire' in the Quadlock.

On our UK/Euro spec cars, the +12v power enters the Quadlock pin 15 via a 1.5mm sq red/white wire which is looped onto pin 16 as well. This is a pic of the back of my Quadlock.

You haven't said whether you are trying to install a Quadlock or making the connections to your new HU in other ways.

@ philipdowdle - Can you look at your VIN sticker and see if any of these PR codes are present. The codes are in the first colum.

Just out of curiosity, I ran a search for the Japanese PR codes related to the stereo and navigation options which are listed below. I'll try to track down a Japanese Audi workshop Manual and wiring diagram for the Mk2 that might be able to help since this topic does come up from time to time.

If we know which PR codes is assigned to your vehicle, we should be able to determine which kit was installed at the factory and work backwards from there.

code group description
7A5 CDW CD changer for Japan
7Q3 NAV Navigation system for Japan (MID)
7Q6 NAV Navigation system for Japan, color screen

8AM RAO Radio for Japan
8AU RAO Radio for Japan (MID)

Yeah, sorry I can't do much more. Trying to surf the Japanese internet for an Japanese Audi club or Forum is a real hassle, even with the translate feature.

From what I can tell, It looks like the original Audi head unit is pretty close to the Clarion NX808. Now the challenge is trying to find a legible wiring diagram. The one above was the best I could find, but will still require translation.

HI All, so this is now completely working, tttony and SwissJetPilot were absolute key and amazing in helping me getting this resolved.

Once you know what is what, the process was not difficult.
I cut off the Quadlock connector that came with the HU
B+ and - are basically self explanatory, large yellow and black wires
+Acc(ignition) Not needed, as this is controlled by Canbus
Canbus connections - most important - wiring loom Orange/purple(high) and Orange/brown(low)
Speaker connections - according to the diagram attached in photo
Antenna out to turn on factory amp, goes to pin 4 on the connector

Reverse camera just works via canbus activation, steering wheel controls just work via canbus and HU just turns on via canbus

Picture below of the final wiring loom

Any chance you can make a wiring diagram with what you have before you put it all way?

It would be good to know which Blocks (B) and Pins (P) are used and what their colors are where the originate.

For example B2 has a twisted pair of B2,P1 Red/Yellow and P2 Red/Purple. These goes to B5,P3 Green and B5/P4 Green.

I just made these up for the sake of the illustration, but if you can make the necessary corrections, we should have a pretty decent wiring diagram!
